I will assume you do not know why I have been working to raise awareness to the crime of human trafficking, by briefly mentioning that my daughter, Jessica (Jessie) Edith Louise Foster has been missing since March 29, 2006 at the age of 21, and has long been suspected to be the victim of human trafficking.

To keep myself sane and to keep my daughter’s case going, I decided to write and talk and do anything and everything possible. From that I have become (as mentioned on the latest poster for my lecture at TRU [Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC Canada]) a “Nationally acclaimed human sex-trafficking activist and continues to be a voice for the man women who fall victim to the sex trade”.

Please allow me to share what I have done since keeping track in 2010, when I realized that this was more than Facebook and social networking, this was something that I was going to be doing for real. That people were interested in hearing what I had to say. Before that I was an office manager and computer tech. What a change for me, but it all seemed to fall in place, one day at a time. I did not study or learn to do any of this. I never wanted to be a human trafficking activist or think I was an abolitionist, but life takes us where we are supposed to go, not always where we want to be.

2010 –

FEBRUARY: I was asked to be a keynote speaker at the 19^th Annual Women’s Memorial March in Vancouver, BC, Canada’s. The march is held every year on the 14^th to honour and bring awareness to the missing and murdered aboriginal women of Canada’s poorest neighbourhood, the downtown eastside – or the DTES. This event was happening at the same time as the opening of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and there was a lot of international media attention on the march this year.

MARCH: I was in Vancouver, BC for CTV’s Canada AM show on the 29^th, with Canada’s leading forensic artist, Diana Trepkov who did several different age enhancements of Jessie and what she would look like 4 years after her disappearance, including one of what she would look like as a victim of human trafficking.

APRIL: I did my first 2 human trafficking presentations at Sa-Hali Secondary School here in Kamloops, BC on the 6^th, and then I was in Toronto, ON on May 15^th for the 1^st Annual Glendene & Jessie Foster Award, given out to 30 people who were fighting to combat human trafficking . . . such as a Canadian Member of Parliament, Joy Smith; Professor of law, human trafficking expert and author, Benjamin Perrin, Chief of York Police, Armand LaBarge; and reporter, Tamara Cherry. MAY: I was invited to speak at a bereavement ceremony in Kelowna, BC by the mother of missing and presumed dead, Charles Horvath on the 8^th. On May 27^th we quietly celebrated Jessie’s 26^th birthday, and the 5^th birthday without her.

JUNE: Two more high school presentations here in Kamloops, at Valleyview Secondary School on the 8^th and the 10^th.

JULY: We held a Jessie Foster Dine ’n’ Dance in Kamloops on the 10^th and I was invited to the Family Retreat for families of victims of crime in Chilliwack, BC on the 22^nd.

AUGUST: On the 18^th I went to Merritt, BC to do a presentation for the Lower Nicola Indian Band for children from the age of 5 to 18, being my first time speaking to elementary school children.

OCTOBER: Professor Benjamin Perrin, mentioned above, wrote a book, INVISIBLE CHAINS: Canada’s Underground World of Human Trafficking, including Jessie’s case, which launched this month and on the 18^th, the day before my birthday, Ben invited me to the book launch in Vancouver, BC. Then on the 23^rd I was in Edmonton, AB for a fundraiser for MLAP which also included a book launch for INVISIBLE CHAINS and later that evening I was interview by Alberta PrimeTime for a mini-documentary they wanted to do, called DOMESTIC HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

NOVEMBER: The Salvation Army chose me to be the Hope Giver for 2010 (the Hope Giver is someone who was once without hope, who now gives hope to others), and invited me to go to HOPE IN THE CITY in Vancouver, BC on the 25^th. The keynote speaker for that event was Benjamin Perrin, who spoke about Jessie’s case. On the airplane home I met Canadian country music star, Allen Christie, who is now a Jessie supporter.

FEBRUARY: HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell’s show ISSUES on the 1^st; on the 9^th I was booked on 2 different internet radio shows: first on the Vinny Eastwood Show from New Zealand, and then Bring Them Home Now BlogTalkRadio. MARCH: I did 2 more presentations at St. Anne’s Academy Catholic School on the 8^th. On the 9^th, I was invited to go to Edmonton, AB for Sexual Exploitation Awareness Week, but I could not attend, so they read my statement at the rally. On the 12^th I was a keynote speaker at the Soroptomist of the Langleys & International in Langley, BC with MP Joy Smith and Miss Canada, Tara Teng. On the 16^th I was booked for 2, but ended up doing 3 presentations at Henry Wise Wood Secondary School in Calgary, AB – the city where Jessie lived when she met the person who years later took her to the USA. Later that day my oldest daughter and I did a final interview with the reporter from Alberta PrimeTime to be added to the Domestic Human Trafficking mini-documentary they were working on. They waited several months for me to be booked in Alberta so they could come and film me doing a presentation in their province. On the 19^th, Nigel Graham’s Jessie’s song was released. On the 29^th, 30^th, and 31^st I was in our nation’s capital, Ottawa, On for a human trafficking conference, Moving Forward Together, put on by the RCMP, the Human Trafficking National Coordination Center, the Ottawa Police Service and the Canadian Chiefs of Police Association. The day I spoke, it was the 29^th – the 5^th year since Jessie went missing. The Ambassador and keynote speaker was Paul Brandt; “the most awarded Male Canadian Country Artist in history”.

My shows on the 15^th and 22^nd were just myself talking about Jessie and what I have been doing to raise awareness on the crime of human trafficking. On the 29^th my 1^st guest was Gladys Radek, co-founder of the Walk4Justice (we had technical difficulties halfway through the show, so we rebooked for the next week to finish).

DECEMBER: I had several other wonderful guests this month: Gladys Radek came back on the 6^th; Mark Price, the head of the Kamloops & District CrimeStoppers on the 13^th; MP Joy Smith on the 20^th. And on the 24^th I was invited to be in the Army of Angels and the Kross Kountry-4-Kids tour, all put on for National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April 2012. So I had Kathleen Moore with the Army of Angels on the show on the 27^th.

2012 –

JANUARY: My first guest on my show in the New Year, on the 3^rd was Bobby Brown, who is known as a friend of Dog the Bounty Hunter and also involved in a new show called Missing Peace. On the 10^th my guest was Dottie Laster. The USA recognizes January 11^th as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day but to me this crime deserves an international awareness day and so I strive to have that become a reality in 2013. On the 11^th, a newspaper article came out in the UK about Jessie’s case and a man who wrote a song for her. On the same day, here in Kamloops I was speaking at an afternoon event at TRU (Thompson Rivers University) and I am booked for a lecture there on the 16^th, with the poster stating that I have: “become a nationally acclaimed human sex-trafficking activist and continues to be a voice for the many women who fall victim to the sex trade”. I am also booked on the 19^th at the Salmon Arm Christian School in Salmon Arm, BC.

Matthew O’Brien is an author and journalist who’s lived in Las Vegas since 1997. His first book, Beneath the Neon: Life and Death in the Tunnels of Las Vegas, chronicles his adventures in the city’s underground flood channels. His second book, My Week at the Blue Angel: And Other Stories from the Storm Drains, Strip Clubs, and Trailer Parks of Las Vegas, (WHICH INCLUDES JESSIE’S CASE), is a creative-nonfiction collection set in off-the-beaten-path Vegas. He’s the founder of Shine a Light, a community project that provides housing, drug counseling, and other services to the people living in the drains.

Matt was a reporter for the Las Vegas CityLife when I met him in Las Vegas, my 2nd time there. He was writing a story, WHERE’S JESSIE?, so he came with us around the city, to appointments with the police, handing out posters, going to the house Jessie had been living in (kept at) in North Las Vegas. There was myself (Jessie’s mom, Glendene), Jessie’s dad Dwight, Matt and the Global TV crew from Calgary – reporter & cameraman – who also met with us in Vegas to do a big story about Jessie, going around the city with the camera on. What an experience – and what a lot of exposure for Jessie.

PRE-SCRIPT (I wanted to put this here first, not after my email – so it is a PS, but not a POST-SCRIP): Already this year, we have got 4 different messages from people with info they thought might help us find Jessie. Nothing has yet, but you never know. All I want is for this contact to never stop – and for almost 6 years, it hasn't.

Over the years I have felt sabotaged by things that have happened: 14 Facebook accounts being disabled and my NowPublic account being disabled (this even stumped the techs for the site, as there was no footprint or anything saying who did it or when it was done). But the other day when I got a message from one of the people with the Dreamcatchers for Abused Children BlogTalkRadio called me to ask why in the world I deleted the Bobby Brown interview from last week. I DID NOT DELETE MY INTERVIEW WITH BOBBY BROWN. It did not surprise me that it happened, but it did make me sad. That was one of my proudest interviews. I will always be happy to say I was able to get Bobby Brown to come on my show. But now it is gone . . . and that is really too bad. SABOTAGED?? Who knows.

JANUARY 11, 2012

(Inter)National Human Trafficking Awareness Day (Wednesday, January 11, 2012) and (Inter)National Human Trafficking Awareness Month (the entire month of January) – are both recognized in the United States and we need it to be adopted around the world – as human trafficking is not a national issue – it is a worldwide . . . international issue – so let's treat it as such.

I just have to say, I am so glad that this crime is not as hidden as it was when my daughter, Jessie Foster, became one of it's victims. People have come forward, opened up about this crime and with that knowledge, other people have been saved.

I am not glad about the amount of victims, obviously, but I am happy that more and more people are rescued AND more & more laws are changing AND those that now know, cannot un-know – because it is with the force of everyone that changes will be made.

Which is why, in my opinion, it should be INTERNATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY and I am sure by 2013 it will be.

Glendene Grant has been searching for her daughter Jessica “Jessie” Foster since March 2006. Jessie is a victim of human trafficking. Originally from Canada she was lured to the United States via a “friend” (more likely a recruiter). The last time her family heard from her she was in Las Vegas. Then she disappeared. No further contact was made.

Later, family found out that Jessie had been forced to work at an escort agency. She also had been arrested several times for solicitation. Her family believes that she may have tried to get herself arrested thinking authorities would make her leave the US, but she was always sent back to her alleged boyfriend who was a known pimp. Family also found out that before she went missing, that she had been beaten and hospitalized with a broken jaw.

This case like many had tons of red flags pointing to human trafficking.

Jessie’s mom is spreading the word about Human Trafficking and doing a lot when it comes to educating people on this subject. When I asked Glendene what advice she would give to other mothers on how to protect their children from the dangers of human trafficking she offered her insights:

“If their daughters (or sons) start pulling away from family & friends to be with someone, if their habits change (and usually this happens fast), then you need to find out what is happening and what is new in their lives. They also need to be careful of their surroundings, especially in places they have not been before. Try to pair up, never go places alone.”

My Auntie Billie told me that my Mom was a crow

The 2 crows that hang out at my place. One is on the telephone pole and one is on a neighbour's car.

After my Mom passed away on March 22, 1998, her sister, my Auntie Billie told me a story.

First off, you have to know my Mom LOVED going to thrift stores and yard sales.

Cute story: years ago I went through all my kids' stuff and gave a bunch of toys, books and colouring books to the Salvation Army. One day my Mom comes over with a bunch of colouring books she just got at the Salvation Army, and they looked familiar . . . when I looked inside, I saw pages coloured and signed by my kids! She bought my books back. We got a kick out of that. Another thing . . . Mom would go to every second-hand store in Kamloops and buy all their wool, and then she would crochet blankets out of it and donate all the blankets to the Salvation Army and other places to be given to the needy. All my kids had their blankets from Grandma, and most of my friends and their kids also had a blanket from my Mom. She even gave blankets to some of the homeless in town. My Mom could not understand how there were people in the world going hungry or cold and she did all she could to help those who were.

Another quick story: just to let you know how my Mom and Dad were when I was growing up. No piece of food was wasted. If it was not eaten, it was canned and frozen or made into jam and soup. Mom made our own root beer when we were kids. Dad made his own horseradish (the only form of child abuse in our home . . . when we had to smell Dad’s horseradish as he was making it – it would burn your eyes – all of kids we grew up with remember the smell of Dad’s horseradish throughout the house).

One time I was on my way home from downtown for supper and I saw this young white kid with the biggest, curliest Afro standing on the corner of 6th and Columbia Street, trying to hitch-hike a ride east.

FYI: Back then, Columbia Street was the Trans-Canada Highway also known as Highway #1 (I GOT THIS FROM WIKIPEDIA: one of the 3 longest highways in the world, with the main route spanning 8,030 kilometers or 4,990 miles – construction of the highway started in 1950, officially opened in 1961 and completed in 1971) and it ran right through town – but because it was not safe for the citizens of the city, especially the pedestrians, a bypass was built in the early 1970s, not too long after the Highway was completed.

He was there when I went downtown earlier in the day and still had not gotten a ride. I felt bad for him and I thought that he must be hungry. I went up to him and asked him if he was hungry and he said yes. So I told him he could come home with me for supper. He was very hesitant, but he was also very hungry – so after ensuring with me that my parents would not mind, he grabbed his backpack and left to go eat.

When we got home, I told Mom and Dad that I brought home someone who was hungry to have supper with us. Mom grabbed another plate, and Dad shook his hand and welcomed him to our home. After supper Dad and I gave him a ride out to a truck stop in Valleyview where he would be able to get a ride much easier than in the middle of town. He was very grateful to us for our hospitality . . . I thought it was something you just did.

Another time my friend and I were coming home from the park and we saw these 2 young guys hitch-hiking. We stopped to talk to them, as we often did back in the days when hitch-hiking was a mode-of-transportation, long before Stranger-Danger. Because I always saw my Mom doing it, I asked them if they were hungry, and they both said they were, so my friend and I went home . . . first to her place then to mine . . . to make a picnic lunch. We both made enough to feed 2 or 3 people, so we had a big lunch. We went back to where the boys were, on 11th and Columbia Street, and we all sat down on the sidewalk and they ate. Then we gave them the rest of the food to take with them. They were very grateful to us. And I will tell you this; I miss that type of sincere gratitude. No one expected anything. They did not think they had a right to be fed. They were just happy that they were no longer hungry that day.

Anyway, back to my original story: Auntie Billie was still living on Valleyview Drive, which is a main road through a residential area. There are a lot of yard sales in the weeks and months that followed Mom's funeral and my Auntie Billie would walk down Valleyview Drive to go to the ones nearby. She told us that there was this crow that followed her up one direction of the street and back down – it would hop along, not fly – and it kept pace with her. When Auntie would stop and go into a house that was holding a yard sale, this crow would wait outside the yard. Then it would continue along the street with Auntie when she started walking again.

My Auntie Billie told me that my Mom was a crow – and I have never doubted it, because we all know that my uncle (their brother) was an eagle. Don't bother going on and on, you cannot change my thinking, my sister has tried for over a decade and I still, with all my heart, believe that my Mom came back as a crown after she passed away.

Every time something happened in my life, and the lives of Jim and my daughters, since my Mom passed away, there has been a crow (or many crows) around me.

In June 2010 the Walk4Justice grassroots organization was starting its walk in Kamloops and going to Winnipeg – so I arranged for them to camp out in my yard the night before the walk was to start, and then for MP Joy Smith to greet them in Winnipeg with a BBQ welcome. The evening they stayed with us, we had pizzas delivered by Dominos, no charge, for supper and while we were all sitting outside in the yard, there were over a dozen crows sitting all around us. We had never had that many crows in our yard at one time, but for you to understand it like we do, you have to know that my Mom is also of First Nations descent like the walkers, so even if we had never seen it before, we also were not surprised.

Earlier this year, before Dad got sick, after we had a crow following us, Jim said to me, 'it will be very sad when one day there will be 2 crows instead of just 1'. Meaning after Dad passes away. Then on July 6th, early in the day, there were a bunch of crows (apparently called a 'murder' of crows) outside our house, in a big tree across the street. There was so many that Jim, who was outside, came in and told me to bring my camera that I would not believe how many crows were outside. He was right. I took some pictures and a video of them all – they were caw-cawing like crazy!

Dad passed away in September, and ever since then, there have been 2 crows outside my door every day. They sit on the wires above our front door, exactly where Brandy's balloons got stuck when we had a birthday celebration for Jessie a few years ago. The balloons stayed there, ribbons, note and all, for over a year. Over time the balloons deflated, then finally fell to the ground outside my fence.

Every single day, when I open the door, before it is even all the way open, they caw-caw their greetings and then usually one of them flies down to the sidewalk or one of the neighbour's mailbox or the roof of the other neighbour's car. One time, from the way it swooped down, I actually thought it was going to fly right in my front door.

WHICH REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER SHORT STORY: One day, years ago, when I was in the kitchen and one of my daughters was in the living room watching TV alone, except for our cockatiel bird, Shadow (who is now over 20 years old, and has been passed from one sister to the other in my family, ending with us many years ago).

Shadow's cage was sitting on an end table in front of the window on the far side of the room so he could look outside on that beautiful day. There was a cat outside looking at Shadow like he would make a tasty meal. Shadow, obviously feeling safe and secure inside the house, was probably being cocky and teasing the cat outside the window.

All of a sudden I hear a loud bang and a crash and my daughter screamed! I ran into the living room and this is what I saw: there was this strange cat looking at me, pretty much freaking out, wanting to get back out the door, but I was standing in the way; my birdcage was on the floor, with the bottom broke off; my daughter was on the couch with her feet up so this cat or the bird could not get her!

I shooed the cat out of the room; picked up the cage with Shadow still in it; and calmed down my kid. Then we started to laugh at what just happened!!

Most of you know that I am the mother of Jessie Foster - an international endangered missing woman and the victim of human trafficking.

For the first 2 shows it was just me talking about Jessie's disappearance and what I have been doing since she went missing on March 29, 2006 and this week I will be having my first guest - GLADYS RADEK, the Co-Founder of the Walk4Justice. Gladys is like a sister to me, and I am very happy she will be joining me.

GLADYS RADEK BIO:

Gladys Radek is a proud grandmother of 5. She is originally from the Gitxsan Wet su wit en’ territory in northern British Columbia and resides in Vancouver, BC. Gladys graduated from the Native Education Center in 1999 with a 3.84 GPA. Shortly after her graduation her road to activism began. It started out with launching a precedent setting human rights case against a major mall in Vancouver and its security. International Village or Tinseltown Mall’s Securi-guard company were systemically removing the vulnerable, poor, disabled and First Nations people out of this mall over a period of time. She succeeded in changing the policy for security guards throughout the province to implement a human rights module in the training packages before they become security guards. She also set a precedent for highest payout for injury to dignity at $15,000.00, in July 2005.

Shortly after this a tragedy happened, her niece, Tamara Lynn Chipman, a young mother of one, disappeared out of Prince Rupert, BC. Gladys launched public awareness by collecting data from other family members who have lost their loved ones. She co-founded the Walk4Justice in 2008. The W4J is a grassroots organization with many volunteers and it relies on donations to raise awareness nationwide. W4J brings forward the issues surrounding the far too many missing and murdered women - issues like poverty, homelessness, addictions, prostitution and most of all domestic violence. So far W4J has completed four walks and prior to that she did the Highway of Tears Walk (2006): the first was from Vancouver, BC to Ottawa, Ontario (2008); the second walk was from Vancouver, BC to Prince Rupert, BC (2009); the third was from Kamloops, BC to Winnipeg, Manitoba (2010) and the fourth was again, from Vancouver, BC to Ottawa, Ontario (2011). One of W4J’s successes is bringing so much attention to the issues of missing and murdered women in BC that the BC government launched a public inquiry into the missing and murdered women from the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver and the Highway of Tears in northern BC. W4J has succeeded in carrying the voices of the families towards justice.

Recently, Gladys made it to the top ten for the Champions of Change, a contest to honour volunteerism in Canada on CBC TV, January 2011. She won $10,000.00 that went towards the W4J’s fourth walk from Vancouver, BC to Ottawa, Ontario in the summer of 2011. Their message was to launch a national public inquiry and also a National Missing and Murdered women’s Symposium for 2011 in Vancouver, BC. W4J believes that a National Missing and Murdered Women’s Public Inquiry must evaluate and promote the societal and social structures needed to provide safety and wellness for our future generations. Gladys spends 365 days a year advocating and networking with family members to promote social change. Every day she prays for Justice for all the families. She hopes that someday there will be no more Violence Against Women and Children and that they get the respect and dignity they deserve as the life givers of ALL society. Justice, closure, equality and accountability are needed for a sustainable society.

November 21, 2011 – To my friends and Jessie supporters . . .

I am doing something new. I have recently begun my own BlogTalk radio show on the Dreamcatchers for Abused Children network and I love it.

My show is simply called Glendene Grant | M.A.T.H. (Mothers Against Trafficking Humans). Perhaps it will help M.A.T.H. become a reality.

Every week my hourly shows will just be another way for me to bring awareness and education to the horrific crime of human trafficking.

I plan on having guests, but I really prefer to start off with a few shows of people calling in with questions and me giving information.

I hope to reach many listeners and I also hope that a lot of people will call in with questions or other info they would like to share.

And I especially hope that victims of this crime and their loved ones will know that they are not alone – they have others who share their pain and suffer as they do . . . but they don't need to continue to suffer, they don't have to be victims – they can become survivors.

A message I got that reminds me that Jessie did NOT go missing in vain . . . OF THIS I AM SURE!

As much as I hate to say it, there have been a lot of good things that have happened because of Jessie's disappearance.

Of course I hate to say it, because I do not want it to be a good thing that Jessie went missing, however, since this did happen to her and to us, I am very grateful for the wonderful things that keep happening BECAUSE of what happened to my daughter.

I got the following message from a young woman on Wednesday, but I did not see it until yesterday. I replied as soon as I did - that message is below hers.

I watched the movie Taken today and I remembered the story of Jessie. I was at Chase (B.C.) Secondary (high school), in Mr. Arkinstall's Law 12 class last year, when you came to give a presentation. Ever since that day I have not been able to stop wondering about Jessie and where she is now. I think often about what it must have been like to be in her position, I can only imagine how frightened I would be.

I just wanted to let you know that your presentation touched me deeply, and I have not stopped thinking about your daughter. I'm sure that she's out there somewhere always thinking of you. I bet she dreams about her family and how much it's grown since she's been away. Your persistence inspires me. I want to help spread the awareness about Jessie and the Human Trafficking act.

Never Give Up

Thank you for teaching me to be aware.

You'll never know how much I appreciate this.

My reply to her:

*******, I appreciate your message more than you will ever know. It is messages like these that truly keep me going. If I can ever do anything that ultimately stops something bad from happening to anyone, then I know that Jessie did not go missing in vain.

I do know that we are not living through this for nothing. What I do may not bring back Jessie . . . it may, but maybe not . . . I am sure, however, that it will stop it from happening to someone else I know and love.

Story of Jeanne saying Jessie would be famous when Jessie was 1-year-old

A dear friend of mine sent me a message today, the following sentence is from it:

. . . I know this is a sad thing to say but maybe it was meant for Jessie to disappear, for so much good has come from it although your heart breaks every single day . . .

And I actually knew exactly what she meant. Here is my reply to her:

Sometimes I think that as I know Jessie would have chosen to do this, if she knew what it meant to others. But, like you said, it is heartbreaking. I just know that my Jessie was meant to be a hero and I will tell you why . . .

I had a friend **** from Kamloops, BC (were I grew up and where I live now) and his friend, ****, and that friend's girlfriend Jeanne, show up at my place in Calgary, AB (where I was living then, Jessie was born there). We were in our mid- to late-twenties, and the girlfriend was just 17.

I had not seen **** for a few years and I did not care for their lifestyle. I told them they had to leave, so **** and **** got their stuff together and went out to the car, and were waiting for Jeanne. But I told Jeanne that she was not going, I told her she was a minor and she could stay with me.

I let Jeanne live with me for a while. She got a job right away and moved into her own place. She met a nice guy a while later, who she is still with *****, and they have a teenaged son named ******. To this day, Jeanne and her mom, *******, tell me that they know . . . they JUST KNOW . . . that I saved Jeanne from a life of drugs and perhaps worse. I have never taken as much credit for this as I know I should have after all, all I did was keep her . . . LOL!

Anyways . . . the point of this story is this: Jeanne is slightly psychic. Not really psychic - but her and her mom both just KNOW when something is right, and there is no explaining it. She looked up at a picture of Jessie on my wall one day it was her 1-year-old birthday portrait, she was wearing this cute little green & white striped track suit-type outfit, and she has a little tear in her eye. When we put her down to step back for the photographer to take the picture, she started to cry for us to pick her up, and her daddy said, SMILE, and she gave us a big, beautiful smile and the picture is adorable.

ANYWAYS (lol) . . . Jeanne looked up at this picture on my wall about 26 years ago and said this: SHE IS GOING TO BE FAMOUS ONE DAY. That is all she did not know how or why, all she knew is that Jessie was going to be very well-known . . . and she was right.

Who knew it would have been for this reason? But the fact is, Jeanne did NOT say that about any of my other 3 daughters AND Jessie is famous.

So, that is why I know she was right, Jessie was meant to change the world in the face of human trafficking.

AMAZING STORY: Drawing of bird on a stump by an artist named Donald Kitt

Okay, I still have tears in my eyes before even starting this message, so I am pretty sure this will be something I will be crying through as I write it, but they are good tears . . . touching tears.

They are tears I shed as I realize yet again, that many good things have happened since Jessie has been missing - and some of the good things have even happened because of her disappearance.

Strange, isn't it? But it let's me know how much Jessie has helped others, even saved others and I am very proud of her. Jessie is a very strong young woman and I pray we find her one day.

If Jessie is not alive, we still need to find her just as desperately.

Anyways, this is my story:

The picture I have attached is of a pencil drawing of a bird on a stump that Jessie won at a Blazer Hockey Game here in Kamloops many years ago (probably grade 8 or so). It was drawn by an artist named Donald Kitt.

When Jessie brought that drawing home and showed us, her stepdad Jim instantly fell in love with it. As soon as she saw how much he liked it, Jessie gave it to him. Jim has treasured it for probably, about 14 or 15 years, but it took on even more meaning after Jessie went missing. It means the world to us, but it is a treasure to Jim.

Jim has talked about finding out more about the artist for a long time, and yesterday got out the magnifying glass to ensure we had the name spelt right and then we Googled him. There were a few different links that came up, we checked them out, but none seemed to fit.

Then we found the link to Wildwood Creations (http://wildwoodcreations.ca/) and an artist named Don Kitt. We were pretty sure it was him we we saw this sentence: "His trips often took him to BC and at the age of twenty he made BC his permanent home moving to Kamloops soon after". Then I read he did "pen and ink drawings" and that he had a fascination with "animals and the outdoors" I was convinced.

So, I emailed him the following message from that website:

Your sculptures, carvings and walking sticks are all so beautiful. They are just amazing.

Many yeas ago my daughter Jessie Foster won a beautiful drawing in pencil of a bird on a tree stump at a Blazers hockey game. The name of the artist is Donald Kitt and we were wondering if that was you.

Jim, is Jessie's stepdad and she gave him that picture when she saw how much he loved it and he treasures it to this day.

You see, Jessie has been missing for 5 & 1/2 years. She was taken to the USA from Canada and forced into the sex trade. When she tried to come home she vanished. We hired a PI who found out a lot of things - not very good things - about what had been happening to Jessie in Las Vegas.

Imagine my surprise when I checked my email this morning and there was a reply from him so beautiful, I know I will never forget the moment I read it.

This was his reply:

Thank you for your email regarding the drawing of the bird on a stump. Yes I am the same Don Kitt who drew that picture many years ago. Your message means a lot to me coming when it did. My health has been an issue over the last year and I received your email less than a day after coming out of surgery. My artwork has taken a back seat to my family and my health making me seriously question why I should bother continuing at it. You have reminded me of why. I have not measured my success in terms of money with my art as it seems to have eluded me thus far but I have been blessed with a richness in seeing and hearing of the joy my art brings to others. The shows I have done have filled me with passion by watching the people and the hearing of the memories and excitement the art brings them. I love the conversations and listening to each story of the how, where and when that the pieces bring out. Each is different and yet each fills me in a way nothing else ever has.

I have followed the Jessie Foster story very closely over the years. It has special meaning to me as I have four grown daughters and remember the worry and fears especially for one of them. I spent far too many nights driving around looking for her and praying all was safe; trying to pick up the pieces when I could and let her know we were always there for her. Luckily things changed and I can almost breathe a sigh of relief with only my free spirited youngest daughter feeding my fears at this time. I have only imagined and hope I never have to go through your ordeal. My heart and prayers are with you, Jim and Jessie as always.

Again I thank you. Your message is an incredible gift at the perfect time.

How amazing that we look at his drawing every day and he has thought of Jessie to many times. I know that this is something I will never, ever forget.

I messaged him right back:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for getting back to me, Don. As much as our message meant to you, yours means to us. I am attaching a picture of your/our drawing.

After reading your message, I prayed for you and I will continue to pray for you for a full recovery.

I am very happy to hear that things are good with your daughter. I am not sure if Jessie's case helped influence her choices, but I know it happened with others, and it brings such a good feeling to my heart to know it. No matter how we are able to save our children, it is such a blessing.

I had some troubles with my oldest and my youngest as they were growing up, but my 2 middle girls, including Jessie, were so easy to raise I was very lucky. They never got in trouble and that was part of the huge surprise and horror about Jessie's disappearance is she was always such a good girl.

Of course I don't know about Jessie, but my other 3 daughters are very healthy, happy young women 2 of them are now mothers themselves and they are doing well . . . thank God.

I am very happy to hear you know of Jessie and have followed her case. It also means a lot to me as you did not even know how much we admired your drawing. It is something we look at every single day it is in our bedroom. To us, it is part of Jessie.

It pleases me to know that in her way, Jessie will help you to continue your work. That amazes me but knowing my girl, it does not surprise me that she has inspire others to do things and it continues over 5 years after her disappearance.

I hope you will keep in touch, and I will, if you are okay with it, keep you informed on updates to Jessie's case.

I also want to know if you mind if I share this story about us emailing you, and your message back to us. I have a lot of people who read about things that have happened in our lives since Jessie went missing, and this is a very touching one that others will also love to read.

It is partially my blogging helps me keep my head on straight. That and knowing that my human trafficking awareness has helped many people. Those are some of my coping mechanisms for dealing with having a missing child. No one can understand how I can go on as I do and I always tell them it is because of the tremendous amount of support I get from so many people around the world. It truly helps me go on each day.

I also understood and accepted a long time ago that I am not the only one living this nightmare and I have never lived as if I was. There are far too many missing people in the world, even in our city and there is no justice for them, so we need to try to get it for them. We need to try to get justice for all the victims and their loved ones of unsolved crimes so they can try to carry on with their lives as best as they possibly can.

Again, thank you Don. Please know I am still praying for you, and I know that many, many others are and will be praying for you too.

You are so right, my friend. It is part of my healing. I have found that my healing is ongoing. I continue to heal all these years, but I am not healed completely, as it does not take much to be a raw wound again. But you know, somehow that is okay because I know that Jessie went through so much worse than that.

So, I have learned to live this way, even though I don't know how I managed – other than for the sake of my other 3 daughters and my 3 grandchildren that have been born since Jessie's disappearance. They are like little bits of medicine for me – they have helped me so much.

I am also staying sane for Jessie. I know that if/when she does come home, she will need me to be there for her, and to do that, I have to be healthy. Many things that I do, I do for Jessie, as she is not here to do it herself. Jessie is the one who has inspired me to bring attention to others about this crime and the types of people that are out there – but I also want others to enjoy their life and not be afraid to live it – but just to be careful as they do.

NBC ID's Disappeared has disappointed me once again!

Hurt me once, shame on you. Hurt me twice, shame on me.

SO I GUESS IT WAS MY FAULT FOR TRUSTING THEM.

The PI from Las Vegas Private Detectives, Mike Kirkman has suddenly become too scared to talk to the crew for an episode on Jessie's case - even though he agreed in the beginning and they got all our hopes up.

So then I get a call from the producer today and he says, YA, MIKE IS RIGHT. WE HAVE ALSO HEARD FROM THE POLICE IN METRO & OTHERS WHO WORK HERE HOW DANGEROUS PETER TODD IS . . . then all I heard was BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

What he was saying was that if the PI is not willing to talk then they can't do the show. I told him that even more than ever I am that I am very glad we only kept Kirkman for a few weeks, since he was such a scaredy-cat. Who wants a private investigator who is afraid? Not me. Don't get me wrong. I don't want to endanger anyone - but if he is afraid of the people he is investigating, then he needs to find another job, because this is obviously not his line work.

Anyways, I cut him off and said, don't bother going on and on with some long explanation if you are not going to do it, then whatever. I am so sick and tired of giving myself to people like you (I spoke for hours on the phone with him and others; I sent them info and pictures and people to contact and so much more – oh well! Whatever . . . ) over and over all for nothing. I relive it every time and you go - NOPE, NOT GONNA TO IT. I even told him that I hope what I do to bring awareness, attention and education about human trafficking helps someone he knows one day (okay, so I am dramatic, what can I say?)!!!

I also thanked him for trying and told him not to worry - that I, a nearly 54-year-old grandma will continue. Then I told him I had to go, that I had to try to find my daughter and I hung up.

Seriously though, I truly don't want anyone else to be in danger and I get that they are scared. But then do a story about her disappearance and her family looking high and low and her mother trying to educate people about this horrific crime of human trafficking. Don't do it where you have to expose Peter Todd as the violent pimp and possible/likely human trafficker that he is. Do it from another way.

OH WAIT. That won't get them ratings. Our life, without the horrible criminals that are literally IN MY LIFE, is just not ratings-worthy. So, sorry for making you cry for 3 or 4 hours. Sorry for getting Crystal to find a flight for you to book so she can come to Kamloops at your beck & call. WHATEVER.

So, for the 2nd time, DISAPPEARED got my hopes up, just to let me crash back down. THANK YOU BIG SHOT PRODUCERS AND EXECUTIVES. I pray that your TOPICS never become anyone of your REALITIES!!!

My wonderful dad, JAMES (Jim) GEORGE GRANT passed away on Sept. 3, 2011

It breaks my heart to say this, but my Dad passed away on Saturday, September 3rd, 2011. He joined Mom in heaven after a wait of over 13 years to be reunited with each other.

Dad had been sick with pancreatic cancer for almost 2 months (even though he had to have been sick before that, and either he did not realize it for a while - after all, he was one tough bugger, or he did but kept it from us), and he was given 1 to 3 months when he was diagnosed.

Dad was doing ok for a while, even though he was in and out of the hospital 3 times. Each time he got so sick and tire of being there and was always happy to get home.

The first time he was craving food with some flavour so badly that the first thing he did was get my younger sister Barb to go pick up some Chinese Food for supper for him, her and I. It was my last meal I ate with my Dad.

But home was not an easy place for him to be. His walker barely fit through the bathroom door and Dad worried about him falling or something and my sister being the only one there - so he requested to go to a home on Thursday, September 1st.

But when Barb and my younger brother Jimmie called around, there were none with a bed available, but the Kamloops Hospice did. So Dad wanted to go there.

It is a very beautiful place and the staff there treats the patient and their loved ones with such respect - you just know that they care about each and every one of the people in that building.

He got there Thursday but I did not get a chance to get up to see him. I did not think he was doing as poorly as he was, and I regret missing that day seeing him.

I washed up all his family pictures from his living-room that my Barb and Jimmie dropped off and on Friday after supper Jim and I went up to see Dad.

We spent some time with him, talking about this and that, but he was tired and fell asleep between our conversations.

I took some pictures of the beautiful view that Dad had from his window, but his eyes were not the best and unfortunately he was not able to completely appreciate it - but we certainly could.

I took my last picture of Jim & Dad and Jim took my last picture of me & Dad - and I will treasure them forever.

On Saturday morning Barb got a call from the hospice saying that Dad had taken a turn for the worse during the night and we should all get up there. I called Jimmie and he called me back from our older brother, Gordie's place and the two of them and Jim & I met Barb up there.

Dad was not really aware that we were there - but he did grab our hands and every once in a while he opened his eyes and looked at us. During those times I know he knew who we were. He was having a bit of trouble breathing from time-to-time and he would literally stop for almost a minute, but to us it seemed like an eternity. But then he would catch his breath and we would all catch ours.

We called Dad's grandchildren who were raised by him and Mom and Adam & Melanie were on their way here; Vicki & Gord are in Edmonton (Vicki will be here on Friday, September 9th); then we each called our children, some of who lived out of town - those who didn't came right up. Our oldest sister, Donna came up to see Dad during the afternoon.

We planned to have dinner together up at the hospice in the family kitchen - so we all prepped and cooked at home and went back to eat. After dinner everyone was reluctant to leave, but it was starting to get late.

It was decided that I was going to stay the night with dad, so I went home to get some things - then Jim told me he would leave me and my siblings and nephew alone with Dad and he said his goodbye and he went home, too. Gordie also went home, so there was me, Barb, Jimmie and Adam still with Dad.

We were watching some TV and talking when Adam, who was sitting on his right side; Barb was on his left; Jimmie was on the couch; and I was on a chair near his feet - motioned to us that it had been a bit of time since Dad's last breath. Barb grabbed his hand and Jimmie & I stood up. We called the nurse and waited while he was pronounced dead at 9:48PM, Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the age of 85.

We all cried and said our goodbyes. I called Jim and he came right back. Then I called Gordie and his wife Pat said she would tell him and see us in the morning. Then we had to call his grandchildren. What a sad, sad, sad time that was.

I know it will be a while before we will ever get over Dad's death - if ever. I doubt we have ever completely got over Mom's and I certainly have never got over Jessie's disappearance.

Open house will be held on Saturday, September 10th, 2011 starting at 10:00 a.m. at 728 Pine Street.

I think most of you know who I am, my name is Glendene Grant and my daughter Jessie Foster is a human trafficking victim. Jessie has been missing since March 29, 2006 – over 5 years now.

I have been very active in bringing awareness to human trafficking, I go into high schools around BC and Alberta; I go around the country to events such as the launching of new organizations and conferences on human trafficking.

I am looking for help in advertising the upcoming event – put on by Canada Fights Human Trafficking in a city near you.

The reporter, Danny Baldassarre, started his interview with me last October when I was in Edmonton for Professor Perrin's book launch and the fundraiser for MLAP. We communicated for several months via phone and email and then he met me in Calgary last month and filmed me doing a presentation at Henry Wise Wood Secondary School. The election is temporarily over this week. I say "temporarily" over because now, after the primary election is over, the real election starts and the people of Las Vegas are ready to elect those who they think will do the best job for the city.

So now we are – or at least I am – in suspense until we get the results of the primary election and learn who are those who are left over for the general election about eight weeks from now. So while I wait for the results of the election, I am going to deal with some issues that have come to my attention recently and that I consider kind of interesting.

The latest one is the man who called me to talk about our last week's front page article. The man, who said his name was Greg or something like that, wanted to meet with me to talk about the article; but before he got into a halfway normal or, at the least, civilized tone, he was very upset because the receptionist asked him for his name.

He claimed that he is writing a similar article for some publication that I have never heard of and he wanted to let me know that he had located somebody that he thinks is one of the guys in the Las Vegas Tribune story and wants to meet with me to point the man out to me. I asked him to come to my office, but he declined with a simple “I cannot do that; you have to come to me,” as if I were some kind of stupid person.

Why would I be some kind of stupid person who refuses to meet with someone that could be a good source, even if he had a bad temper, a nasty attitude and an accent like some of the characters in the story? Simple; because I happen to believe it may be dangerous to my health and well-being.

People may think that because I speak with an accent I also think with an accent, but nothing is farther from the truth. I do speak with an accent but I can assure you that I do not think with an accent.

The guy raised his voice and talked tough like he was some kind of Don or Capo in a Family that controlled some territory, trying to intimidate the receptionist; and even tried to speak over my voice until I stopped him, making sure that he knew that I was in total control of the conversation and the situation. I did not think it was a good idea to let him out-talk me at any time and I wanted him to know that I was not being intimidated or afraid of him. He was supposed to call again but he never did, and I am both happy and disappointed because I have never had someone who is not a cop talking to me like that and pretending to be so macho – as though he were wearing a badge and a gun.

Only cops talk like that, hiding behind the badge and the gun because if they leave those two items at home, they are very polite, soft and sweet; that is why I didn’t believe the story that he was writing a similar story as the one I had just approved for the front page of the last issue of the Las Vegas Tribune.

No one that I know would be staying at a Roach Motel as the one the caller told me he was staying at, even if he knows the owner of the place. Most of the pimps that I know have better taste than that and enough money to at least stay in a weekly a little closer to the Strip or Paradise Road. I called back the number that appeared in my Caller ID and it was in fact a place similar to Fremont Street East. Like I said, this guy was either a cop pretending to be a tough guy, or it was someone I call a "suitcase pimp," which is the man who walks behind the girl while she strolls up and down the street because he is afraid that she is going to leave him, or is afraid that a more classy pimp with a car, or at least a bicycle, could steal her from him.

Regardless of who this guy was, I am very happy that he called me because that means that the paper is read by all kinds of people – the good, bad, rich, poor, hard-working, lazy, low-life, and everyone in general. As long as people read the Las Vegas Tribune and call in with comments, I don’t have to write the article; I am satisfied that I can OK it and approve it for publication; and last week's paper disappeared from the racks like a candy bar thrown in the doorway of an elementary school, where kids fight to take possession of that candy bar.

All I want is more articles like that and to see the Las Vegas Tribune being picked up by everyone interested in reading such a human interest story. With more articles like the one on the front page last week maybe the police will pay more attention to the disappearances of those girls that come to Las Vegas under false pretenses and later do not have a way out.

I believe that the least the police can do is try to investigate the disappearances of these girls and give their family closure to their pain and suffering.

It's bad enough that some family's little girl changed her life completely, leaving home on bad terms, maybe lying to the family and following the lies of someone she hardly knew, but for the parents to them not even know if their daughter is alive or dead...? Maybe those police officers should think about that; some day they may find themselves in the same position.

Hi friends. I know I have sent several messages already this month, but I am sure you all understand.

There are basically 2 reasons why. The first and foremost is that the 5 year mark of Jessie's disappearance is fast approaching and of course, as you can imagine – it is very much on my mind. It goes through my head like "FIVE YEARS, 5 years, 5 YEARS, five years, F I V E Y E A R S" – and if that is not enough, then I start thinking . . . "1/2 a decade, HALF A DECADE" – it just never stops.

Anyways . . . Secondly, there has just been so much happening that I keep wanting to share with you all. And continue to help spread the word about human trafficking so it is no longer the crime that no one knows about, therefore allowing it to continue. We will combat it and together we will, one day, make a huge dent in it, just as we have with other issues (drinking & driving and smoking, to name just two) that were brought down to size because we all stuck together and did not back down.

MAY 2011:
May I will be in Toronto for the International Conference on Motherhood, Activism, Advocacy, Agency. I was asked to write a short chapter for their new book on 21st Motherhood Movement. I was contacted by Dr. Andrea O'Reilly, Associate Professor, School of Women's Studies, Founder-Director: Motherhood Initiative for Research and Community Involvement, Journal of the Motherhood Initiative (http://www.motherhoodinitiative.org/), Demeter Press, Editor, Encyclopedia of Motherhood, Sage Press, 2010 - York University, after she heard about my speech at the Freedom Benefit Concert and how I did on the panel at the Inaugural Conference the next day. She wanted to know more about M.A.T.H. Mothers Against Trafficking Humans, an organization that I have been trying to make a reality - instead of just my Facebook Group and Facebook Cause with around 5,000 members each.

She really liked what I wrote.
This is what she said: "Thank you for sending this so quickly. What a powerful and informative chapter!!!."
Then she asked: "Could you provide a couple more paragraphs on Jessie's story of her life and how things were for everyone before and then after she went missing?"
Then she asked: "Could you also provide a paragraph on the state of human trafficking in Canada and elsewhere?"
And finally, I ended up being invited to the book launch in May, and I am to be one of their keynote speakers. So, my short chapter is now a long chapter and somehow I ended up as one of their main speakers.

And in between these events, there are several high school presentations already booked. Unfortunately, we even had to reschedule 3 presentations in Ashcroft on March 31st, because I got booked to go to the National Human Trafficking Conference in Ottawa and I won't be in BC on that day. I felt bad, but on the other hand, I will have completed my CFHT training by the time we do go there, and that is a very good thing.

So, again friends – thank you for always being here for us, especially Jessie. I have always shared my girl, and so Jessie is everyone's daughter everyone's sister and everyone's friend and that is why she is loved by so many.

I hope and pray we do not have to go another 5 years without answers to what happened to Jessie, but I know this – if we have to, she will continue to be in everyone's prayers and on everyone's mind and she will also be not just Canada's most well-known human trafficking victim, but the most well-known human trafficking victim in the entire world. Of this I promise you!

Calgary presentations were awesome!

Hi everyone.

First thing, thank you to those of you who helped ensure I got to Calgary this week, that is the only way I was able to go – so, bless your hearts. I have been asked not to acknowledge publicly a couple of people, so I will just say to you all – YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

I left Kamloops at 1:48pm on a WestJet flight and when I got to Calgary, Crystal and Jessie’s dad, Dwight picked me up and took me to Crystal’s work. She still had an hour left on her shift, and it was supper time, so she cooked me up a storm. It was awesome. Then we went to her place when she got off work.

When Tracy (Crystal & Jessie’s stepmom) got off work, she came right over and we all visited for a while. It was a great visit, just the 3 of us. Jessie’s 2 moms and her older sister.

One thing that Tracy asked that night really hit home – you see, many people have asked the same thing, and over time, I have learned what I believe to be the answer. Tracy said, IT HAS BEEN 5 YEARS AND I STILL CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAPPENED TO JESSIE. I mean, Jessie is the strongest, smartest, sassiest young women we all know. She never took any crap from anyone. She was always in charge of herself. No one walked all over her and CERTAINLY, NO ONE EVER TOLD HER WHAT TO DO (other than her parents and teachers when she was younger). HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO JESSIE???

I told her and Crystal that this happened to Jessie because someone whose job it was to GET HER, did their job. Jessie was all those things, and perhaps that, with her beauty, made her exactly what they wanted. She was probably just what he ordered, prior to Jessie being TAKEN to the United States in May 2005.

Within a month of being arriving in Las Vegas, Jessie was 'dating' Peter Todd, known to the police to be a violent pimp, and shortly after than she moved in with him, to his ¾ of a million dollar home. Then they got engaged.

There are several terms that are used for what happened to Jessie when she was left in Las Vegas with, but Professor Benjamin Perrin’s description of LOVE BOMBING in his book INVISIBLE CHAINS: Canada’s Underground World of Human Trafficking explains it best, and I hope he does not mind me quoting him below:

A barrage of "love bombing" by recruiters . . .
- Poverty, the desire for love, and the desire for money, in that order, are the three key vulnerabilities that permit domestic sex traffickers to recruit and control victims, according to those familiar with the techniques. Applied with practised care, the routine proves enormously successful in coercing vulnerable underage girls and women into a life of sexual exploitation.
- When traffickers encounter victims seeking love and attention, they commonly begin relationships by becoming "boyfriends" to their victims. This "falling in love" stage takes place over approximately two weeks. The girls are told they're beautiful, and they're taken to fancy restaurants and given lavish gifts. By showering a targeted girl with affection and fulfilling her material desires, the trafficker builds allegiance, eventually allowing him to manipulate her. Street gangs refer to these recruiting tactics as "love bombing." The greatest value of the targeted female on the flesh market and the more sophisticated the trafficker, the longer he can take in "grooming" her.

I knew that I wanted to talk about this conversation when I did my presentations the next day.

That night I had a good sleep, but Crystal got called back into work at 10:00pm, because the kitchen was flooding (again). The plumber had been there all day, he actually left when I was there. I am not sure what was wrong, but the problem happened again that night. She did not leave work until about 2:00am, so she did not get as much sleep as I did!

One of Crystal’s very best friends, Vanessa, moved to Calgary a couple of months ago, and she offered to come and get us in the morning and drive us to the school. I was very grateful, because it was much cheaper than a taxi all the way across the city.

When we got to Henry Wise Wood Secondary School, the teacher who arranged my presentation asked me if I would be willing to do an extra one at the end of the day – and of course I said yes. So I had a presentation in the morning, early afternoon and late afternoon. They were an hour and 20 minutes each. The first assembly had 200 students present; the second one had 250; and the third one, put together at the last minute had less than 50. But that was 500 students and their teachers in a school of 1,400. Over 1/3 of the entire school learned about Jessie Foster and got (in most cases) their first human trafficking education.

Crystal and Vanessa sat to my right and Crystal played my videos for me. And I had several of them. Mark from Crime Stoppers gave me his Fields of Mudan and there are a few others made by Crime Stoppers and the RCMP, and including the one I made and the clip from Young, Beautiful & Vanished, I had a lot of video and then I spoke before, between and after each one. It was awesome.

The reporter/cameraman from ACCESS TV’s (now affiliated with CTV) Alberta Primetime, Danny Baldassarre – who started his mini-doc of Jessie back in October of last year in Edmonton when I was there for Benjamin Perrin’s book release and a fundraiser for MLAP, also met us at the school. He wanted to include a clip of me doing a presentation in his work, and he also interviewed a few of the students – then he came to Crystal’s to interview her and finish up with me. This will be airing on March 28th or 29th – I will let you all know when I know for sure.

At the end of each of my presentations, Crystal came up to the podium and asked the audience if any of them had heard of Jessie’s case prior to the presentation. Altogether, in all 3 groups – there were about 50 or 60 who had. And that is awesome, considering they were all in elementary school when Jessie disappeared.

The teacher came up to me and told me that the teachers were so pleased with my presentation, that they are talking to the other teachers in the school and they are going to talk to the principal about bringing me back in two months to present again. I told him I would love to!

The teachers and students could not believe that theirs was the only school who took advantage of my offer to do my presentation for them AT NOT CHARGE TO THEM. They will be talking to other teachers and students in other schools. And to everyone they know. My presentation had a huge effect of many of the students and they want, very much, for others to see it.

There were many students who were upset to the point of tears, but I tried to talk to them – and as it is called “de-brief them” afterwards. I think it all helped.

There were some of the students who talked to me about wanting to do something. They wants to know how to volunteer and how to help combat human trafficking. It was wonderful.

This is a VERY long and detailed account of Jessie's disappearance and other things surrounding her case, but PLEASE understand how important it is to me and to my missing daughter, Jessie Foster, for you or someone to read it all.

First off, I want to thank you for letting me share this with you. I know it will most likely be very emotional for you, as it is to the few people I have told this to - especially if you are a mother.

You should find it very interesting too, because it will keep you wondering! There are so many things to wonder about. Things that people have often asked me about over the years, like:
– WHY HAVE THEY NOT INVESTIGATED THIS CASE MORE THOROUGHLY?
– WHY HAVE THEY NOT INTERVIEWED ALL THE PEOPLE INVOLVED (or interviewed the ones they did much more thoroughly)?
– WHY HAS THE HOUSE NEVER BEEN GONE OVER FOR BLOOD & DNA (checking under carpets and behind baseboards and what ever it is they do during an investigation such asthis)?
I WISH I KNEW! Why not??? HOW ELSE DO YOU SOLVE A CRIME, other than investigating?

I personally have given so much information to the police working on on Jessie's case.

But it is only given to them by me – THE MOTHER – a grandmother, because the people who have called me with this information had no other choice but to call the mom.

I am told over and over, they are calling me personally, BECAUSE THE POLICE HAVE NOT GOT BACK TO THEM. But even when I call or email this information to them myself, they STILL do NOTHING with any of it.

LEADS NEVER GIVEN A SECOND THOUGHT TO BY THE NORTH LAS VEGAS POLICE:
• never interviewing, or even wanting to talk to Jessie's older sister, the last person known to talk to her
• never interviewing Donald Vaz (the person who took her to the USA and left her in Las Vegas); Yvonne Hubrechtsen (AKA: Angel, the person who was supposed to be Jessie's bestfriend in Las Vegas); or Richard Barrington Walcott (Angel's boyfriend and Peter Todd's friend)
• thorough investigation of the home she was last known to be in
• that Jessie was kidnapped and the victim of modern-day slavery, because “that happened in Las Vegas, not not in North Las Vegas” (yes, he seriously told Jessie's dad that)

TIPS GIVEN TO ME, THAT THE NORTH LAS VEGAS POLICE HAVE DONE NOTHING ABOUT:
• a woman called me and told me she saw Jessie immediately after Trish VanArsdale (Jessie's fiance Peter Todd's estranged wife – though, Peter had told Jessie they were divorced, and when she found their marriage certificate and he admited they were still married, it caused a HUGE fight between the two of them) cut Jessie's hand with a knife,(something we told the police about, but they said we had no proof of it, so I am guessing Jessie's word coming from us, was not good enough for them, even though Jessie had told us about this incident prior to her disappearing, and I reported Trish as someone who HATED Jessie – as a matter of fact, Peter and Jessie both told me this: Jessie never answered the door at their home when she was alone, in case it was Trish on the other side – that is how much she hated Jessie for being with Peter and living in the home she once shared with him). This woman told me that Jessie rushed into the office of the escort agency that Jessie was beaten and forced to work at, with blood running from her hand. She was yelling that Peter's jealous, crazy, ex-wife cut her hand. She wassaying how much this person hated her. The woman told me this and she told me that she called the police with it but they NEVER called her back. She told me she was willing to be put under hypnosis, because it was several years ago and she wanted to remember every detail. So I called the police and they never got back to me either. I tried to get someone to help me and eventually, Frank Mahoney from NCMLO (Nevada Center for Missing Loved Ones) told me to get her to call him, but by then, my contact info was no longer working (she did tell me she was going to be leaving Las Vegas and wanted to leave it all behind, so I guess it took me so long to find someone, it was TOO LATE).

• someone told me that Peter Todd took Jessie out to the desert and killed her and buried her, then took $30,000 cash to Trish VanArsdale and gave her $28,000 of it. The police never called them back and never check out this tip, or the car he was driving that day.

• a man called me in August 2009 after he saw the E! Entertainment's documentary,YOUNG, BEAUTIFUL & VANISHED. He had recognized Jessie's picture from it. He told me he saw Jessie at a Motel 6 in AUGUST 2006, months after she was reported missing. He had some detailed info about this time frame. He was there with his daughter who was celebrating her 21st birthday (Motel 6 is the motel we know that Jessie went to on two separate occasions when her friend CB was visiting her in Las Vegas in late summer or early fall of 2005. CB was the only person who was ever at the house that Jessie shared with Peter and his identical twin brother, James Andrew Todd, in North Las Vegas, and she left the house two times, once in a cab and once driven by James – and going to Motel 6. Peter came both times and brought them home – once the next morning, but once was that night – he paid for the room for the night, but took the women back to the house in North Las Vegas). This man told me he had called the police with his information, but they never called me back. He told me he was calling because he was going for major surgery the next week, and not knowing if he was going to make it, he wanted to ensure the mother of this missing woman knew what he knew. I called the police with this information, but they NEVER got back to me about it and have never told me if they have done anything with this tip.

• a young woman called me and told me that everyone in the Las Vegas world of Sin City knows what happened to Jessie, but you know, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. So no one will talk to the police and tell them what she told me, that Peter Todd beat Jessie to death in the house at 1009 Cornerstone Place, North Las Vegas, NV, USA (she is going to 'try' to see if she can find someone from back in 2006 who is no longer in LV, and may not be too afraid to come forward)

My name is Glendene Grant and my daughter is Jessie Foster. We are from Canada, I live in Kamloops, BC; her father lives in Calgary, AB; and Jessie has been missing from (North) LasVegas since March 29, 2006. The reason I put the (brackets) around(NORTH), is because it was just a formality that Jessie's missing person's case was filed in North Las Vegas - because that is the house where they had her living at. It would have just as easily been (Henderson) or (Metro) or (anywhere) handling her disappearance as it was N LV (though I wish it was any other place else than N LV).

Detective David Molnar is the officer at the North Las Vegas Police Department "handling" Jessie's case: file #06-9384 – his phone number is 702-633-1779. Jessie's case here in Canada is with the Serious Crimes Division, and Constable Darin Rappel is the officer in charge of her case: file #2006-9538 – his phone number is 250-828-3293. Jessie's NCIC# is M-535642358.

The reason I did "quotations" around the word "HANDLING", is because in my opinion, it is just a formality, he is the detective on record. Considering he has not contacted me in any way, or replied to my emails or phones calls for over 2 years – for almost ½ the entire time Jessie has been missing, except for one 15-word message in 2009, when I literally had to demand to know who was now the detective on Jessie's case, since it was obviously not him, or he would be doing something, anything(like returning messages to people calling with tips, who end up calling me, the mother, because they get NO RESONSE FROM THE POLICE - WHAT KIND OF INVESTIGATION IS THAT?). He replied with this quote: "Glendene, I am still the Detective on the case. Who told you I was not?" It was not that anyone told me, it was that he HAD NO CONTACT WHAT-SO-EVER, WITH ANYONE IN JESSIE'S FAMILY. I AM THE FAMILY CONTACT PERSON - AND HE NEVER REPLIED TO ANY OF MY PLEAS FOR HIM TO RETURN MY PHONE CALLS OR REPLY TO MY EMAILS. So, to me, Detective David Molnar is simply the detective on record who is "handling" Jessie's case.

Here is some background on JESSIE FOSTER, international endangered missing person and human trafficking victim and the people she knew while in Las Vegas. People we believe, and if you read and listen to all the information, will probably agree – are likely involved in her disappearance:

Peter Bertrand Todd is the person who we were told, by many people, beat Jessie and forced her to work at an escort agency. Several people at this agency, including the manager, have told me personally that Jessie had bruises from Peter, and she was too afraid to leave him.

They also all 'know', as did many people in that walk-of-life, that Jessie was beat to death (some say shot) by him in the house at 1009 Cornerstone Place, North Las Vegas, NV USA 89301 (some say in the desert) and buried in the Mojave Desert north of where they lived.

Even after all this time, I still get calls quite frequently, from people who can't forget Jessie and feel that even though it may be years later – they feel the need to do what they can now to try to help. A recent one was just in August 2010, from a woman who knew Jessie (she knew her as Taylor) back in 2005, she said she believes Jessie is dead, that she was murdered by Peter Todd.

In my and many others opinions, the North Las Vegas police have NEVER done a proper investigation on the house they know she lived in up to the time she vanished. They say they have no reason to do this investigation – so I guess her being missing is not 'reason' enough.

It really makes me wonder how a crime can be solved without investigating it?!?!?!? How do they know if he did it or not if they do not check it out? If they don't rip up carpets and baseboards to look for blood drops or splatters? How does someone not even be investigated and therefore 'wins' by default?

I don't know if Peter did anything or not, but I do know he told me 3 different stories about the last time he saw Jessie.

Well, I have ONE story about the last time I saw my daughter . . . it was as she was leaving Kamloops and her family onCHRISTMAS DAY, DECEMBER 25, 2005 so she could go back to Peter and Las Vegas and the fate that she met, 3 months later – and my story has NEVER changed! How could it? The truth does not change! Our Christmas, however, has forever been changed. How do I have a different story about that?

• Jessie was taken to the USA in the spring of 2005 by Donald Vaz
• Donald Vaz left Jessie in the company of Richard Barrington Walcott and Yvonne (Angel) Hubrechtsen in Las Vegas, NV USA
• Richard Barrington Walcott and Yvonne (Angel) Hubrechtsen then left her in the company of Peter Bertrand Todd
• Peter Todd ended up her 'fiancé' and it was who she was living with, and his identical twin brother, James Andrew Todd, when she vanished 10 months later, never to be seen or heard from now for 5 years

On March 29, 2006, JESSIE FOSTER, for all intents and purposed, COMPLETELY VANISHED!!I T IS LIKE SHE SIMPLY FELL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!
IT IS LIKE SHE CEASED TO EXIST!!!

AND, her:
• passport was NEVER used again!
• debit card was NEVER used again!!
• cell phone was NEVER used again!!!
• credit cards were NEVER used again!!!!
• bank account was NEVER used again!!!!!
• loved ones NEVER heard from her again!!!!!!

AND:
• she does not have a known American Social Security Number!
• there has NEVER been anything on her Canadian Social Insurance Number!

If Jessie did 'cease to exist', then we know, it is because someone murdered my daughter. If Jessie is alive, (like my heart has always told me), then it is because someone did something to her to make her disappear.

I don’t know why I suddenly feel I have to share this now, but I have something I want to share with you. It is something that happened that I have only told a few people about. Namely: my family; a few friends; and a couple of reporters, but I am going to share it with you all now.

It is a very emotional thing for me to relive, and when I do, always I cry hard, so the tears will be pouring down my cheeks and the snot will be dripping from my nose, but you know what, nothing is worse than having a missing daughter. So compared to that, this will be a piece of cake.

First of all, the last time I talked to my beautiful daughter, Jessie Foster was during a phone call on March 24, 2006 when she called me to see if her little sister, Jennee's birthday present had got there and to tell me she had a dentist appointment booked for March 27, she called me twice that day. Jessie was 21 years old at that time.

Then on March 27 Jessie called her dad's house and left her stepmom a happy birthday voice message and said that she was going to the dentist that day.

My oldest daughter, Crystal talked to Jessie several times on March 28, 2006 - I didn't, but I talked to Crystal on that day.

Then, on March 29, 2006 I got up for work at my usual time of 3:00AM. Because I was in the same time zone as Las Vegas, there were many times that Jessie would call me then to talk.

She knew I always had time for her, even at 3 o'clock in the morning. So it did not surprise me when the phone rang shortly after I got up.

What did surprise me was what I heard on the other end.

The first thing I noticed was it was not Jessie's cell phone number on the call display. She still had her same number from Calgary, AB. This was a 7 -0 - 2, Las Vegas area code, and it was not a phone number I recognized.

Even still, I knew, before I picked it up, that it was going to be Jessie. So I said HI SWEETIE!

And then I heard it - it sounded like someone was yelling into the phone. It sounded crackly, like a bad connection with lots of static and I could not understand a thing she was saying.

BUT I STILL 'KNEW' IT WAS JESSIE, and not just because of the Las Vegas area code on my call display! I felt it was her.

It made me very nervous, because it sounded like Jessie was desperately calling for help. Like she was screaming. I was yelling back, JESSIE . . . WHAT IS WRONG? JESSIE, SWEETIE! I CAN'T HEAR YOU. WHAT IS WRONG? And the phone went dead.

I went into the other room to turn on the light and call the number from the call display back, I WAS STARTING TO PANIC. Before I could call the number, my phone rang again. It was the same 702 area code. I answered quickly and said, JESSIE, ARE YOU OK. But again, all could hear was what sounded like someone screaming.

This time it was more desperate, but still not clear. I could not understand exactly what was being said, but it sounded like, "HELP . . . . ME . . . . AGGGGG . . . HELP . . ." I was seriously freaking out. I was starting to scream into the phone, JESSIE, WHAT IS WRONG? JESSIE HANG UP AND CALL THE POLICE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. JESSIE, WHAT IS HAPPENING? And the call ended again.

I was freaking, my heart was pounding, I was starting to shake and cry. WHAT WAS HAPPENING? Was Peter beating her? I had received calls before when Jessie and Peter were fighting and I talked to both of them. I even tried many times to get Jessie to come home and to get Peter to send her home - but of course, back then, I had no way to know that Jessie was already the victim of modern-day sex slavery. She was already being beat and forced to work at an escort agency. Then the phone rang for a third time.

This time I was as panicked as I have EVER been in my entire life. I HEARD MY DAUGHTER SCREAMING FOR HER LIFE! I swear it. I still could not make out the words, but the shear panic and shrillness and the loudness of it all told me SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG. I was screaming into the phone, JESSIE, STOP CALLING ME. CALL THE POLICE! WHERE ARE YOU?

WHAT CAN I DO? CALL 9-1-1!!!!!!!!!!! Then the call ended again.

I tried to call Jessie's cell phone from my cell phone at the same time as I tried to call the number on my call display from my home phone, but both phone just rang, and rang, and rang. I tried to call Peter's cell phone and even Yvonne Hubrechtsen's cell phone (hers was the only other number I had for anyone that Jessie knew in Las Vegas, because I ironically and prophetically said to Jessie when she was going to stay in Las Vegas for 2 weeks until her 21st birthday so she could celebrate there - "Jessie, you are not staying in another country unless you give me a contact number for SOMEONE there. I don't know anyone or where you are, and IF YOU GO MISSING, who will I call". TEN MONTHS LATER MY DAUGHTER WENT MISSING). But all I got on everyone's phone was voice-mail. I left messages, but no one was calling me back. I did not know what to do, because, seriously, I was not even sure what I had just heard.

I called in to work and said I could not come in. I was a mess, there was no way I would be any use at work, as I would be just too worried. I was already worried out of my mind.

Then about 10AM my daughter Crystal called from a pay phone when the Greyhound bus she was on got to a stop . . . she was on her way home from up in Northern Alberta at the oil rig camp she was a cook at, to meet her sister Jessie in Kamloops so they could drive Jessie's car to Calgary for their stepsister's wedding reception (Jessie's proof of car insurance came in the mail to my house for 30 days . . . Jessie paid almost $200 for this, but she never showed up to use it). She was very upset. She said MOM, IT WAS ME. IT WAS ME CALLING NOT JESSIE. IT WAS ME CALLING FROM MY CO-WORKER'S CELL PHONE, SHE IS FROM LAS VEGAS!!!!

You see, Crystal had accidentally washed her cell phone in her housecoat pocket before she left camp, so it was not working. She was on the Greyhound bus with her friend who was going to Edmonton to take a plane home to Las Vegas and she knew I would be up at 3:00AM, so she called me from a 7-0-2 area code phone number!!

Crystal told me she could hear me plain as day. She kept saying over and over, "No, Mom, it is not Jessie, it is me!", but all I heard was Jessie screaming for help.

Now, if you knew how close my daughters are to each other, and how close I am to my kids, then maybe somehow there is a way for Crystal to call me on a Las Vegas cell, just as something horrific is happening to Jessie - perhaps she was being kidnapped or beaten to death at that exact time and through the powers of whatever; through the heart-strings between my children and I and my children and each other; I somehow heard Jessie screaming out for me, for her Mommy as she was snatched away or as 'someone' snuffed out her beautiful life.

I know my heart has always told me Jessie is alive and to this day, through my tears as I type now, even with what I just told you, I can't help it! I just DO NOT FEEL, DEEP IN MY HEART, THAT MY CHILD IS DEAD, and whether that is the truth, and Jessie is alive and that night there were just 3 'bad' connections from a Las Vegas cell area code at the exact same time Jessie sometimes called me OR, Jessie was murdered, and through the grace of the Lord, I was able to be there for her at the end, well, I just don't know.

I do know this though. My best-friend Brenda was there for her 16-year-old son (his birthday was just on July 22, 2002) son, James when he was hit by a speeding truck on August 5, 2002 . . . she held him as he died, and as tragic as that is, it is what has allowed her to go on. She KNOWS he did not suffer, she knows he went to heaven, and she was with her baby as he took his last breath. I hope, if Jessie is not alive, that I was 'with her' as she took her last breath.

The next day, after Jessie never returned Crystal's calls or my calls, one of my other daughters – Jessie's 2nd youngest sister Katie, told me she had been calling Jessie all day, and she never returned her call. I started leaving message after message and I filled up her voice-mail-box. I emailed her and my emails were getting more and more frantic and pretty soon I wasYELLING in them!! I went to work the next day and told one of my co-workers, I THINK MY DAUGHTER IS MISSING IN LAS VEGAS. He said, "What are you doing here then?" And I said, "I DON'T KNOW". I left and never went back for a year and a half (then a year and a half after that, the business closed).

Right now, besides the tears and snot I already mentioned, I am shaking and my head is throbbing. It is almost like I just went through that again. But you know, this time, I feel as if I got something out of telling it. Like when you go to the 'shrink' and pour your guts out and feel better! Or . . . when you pop that damn pimple that hurts like hell . . . and when you do, the pressure comes off and the pain is relieved a bit. Eventually the pimple will heal, and I pray that one day, so will my heart.

So. over the next few days of trying to get a hold of Jessie, I was also calling Peter Todd's cell phone number, which I had – and the number to Yvonne Hubrechtsen that Jessie had given me – IN CASE SHE EVER WENT MISSING – but I was not getting any answers from either of them – or from Jessie or from her emails.

One day a friend of mine suggested call-blocking my phone number before I called, but I said that it wouldn't make a difference. You see, at this point, I no idea that they may (or did) have something to do with her being missing.

You know, what – that worked!

I did it . . . I call-blocked my number and called Peter: HE ANSWERED.

After that I call-blocked my number and called Yvonne: SHE ANSWERED.

Until then, they never bothered to answer the frantic phone calls from the mother of their fiancé/friend's, nor did they return any of my messages where I was pleading for someone to contact me about where my daughter was. That is, until they did not know it was me calling.

When I finally did get a hold of Peter, he gave me 3 (THREE) different stories about the last time he says he saw Jessie:

1. He told me that she was gone since April 3 (this was the 9th). She had called him and asked him to drop off her Rx for pain medication at the pharmacy and she would pick it up on her way home from 'work' in the morning. (He said she had a dentist appointment to have her wisdom tooth pulled and needed the meds. HOWEVER: we know her appointment was on March 27th – not in April).

2. He told me some of the same details: date / dentist appointment – but he told me she asked him also pick up the Rx. The earlier story he said she picked it up.

3. Still some of the same details: date / dentist appointment – but he told me that she wanted him to drop off the Rx for her, then she came home – when he went out to pick it up for her later, and came home, she was gone. WITH EVERYTHING BUT HER HAIRDRYER & MAKEUP (the two things that Jessie would NEVER leave behind on purpose). This tells me she was either taken away suddenly, or someone else took her things and never thought about the bathroom items.

Then, I had to beg him to call the police there and I would call the police here, then we can report her missing on both sides of the border. He was not very interested in doing it – but I insisted and told him I was calling back. Again the RED FLAGS were flapping!

After I made my report to the Kamloops, BC RCMP, I called him back and he told me he was not ALLOWED to report her missing! (WHAT? They were engaged and living together for MONTHS. Who else would report her missing?)

This is PETER TODD's lame attempt to report Jessie as a missing person in the city where she went missing and it is very interesting (at least, it is in my opinion):

He told me that he was told that I had to make the report. He told me that he was given the number to a 'chief' and was told to give this number to her mother and have her mother report her missing. But this number kept going to voice-mail when I called it over and over,and when I finally called the Metro Las Vegas Police (I got the number from Google), I gave the woman I talked that number, and she told me that number was to a FIRE CHIEF?

So I reported her missing from here. But to do that I had to go to the police station here and show my drivers license to prove who I was, then I had to photocopy it and fax it to the North Las Vegas Police Station.

And when I FINALLY got Yvonne to answer my phone calls . . . well, she lied to me about being Yvonne. She told me I had the wrong number. But I called that number back later, again call blocking my number, but this time I lied to her. This time I 'pretended' to be her friend. Calling her by her nickname, Angel – and go figure, I never had the wrong number that time!!

MORE ABOUT YVONNE HUBRECHTSEN:
Yvonne Hubrechtsen was arrested in Vancouver, BC Canada and deported back to the USA - banned for, I think 5 years from coming back onto Canadian soil. It was the middle to the end of December 2007 and she lied to cross the border into Canada because she was denied entry at a port the day before (so she went to a different one, with a different story - who knows, maybe even a different name/passport). Yvonne was pulled over in a Black Hummer owned by her boyfriend, Richard Barrington Walcott (whose Canadian address that I have found, is 5933 - 137 A Street, Surrey, BC Canada V3X 3K9, home phone: 604-596-2159 / cell phone: 604-724-0006 - his mother is Elaine Walcott who lives at that address) in a 'red light district'(hmmmmmm, let's see - trying find their next 'friend/victim'? I think so, but then, who am I so think anything - I am just the mother of a missing woman with WAAAAAAAAY too much time on her hands?) Mike Kirkman, from Las Vegas Detectives, the PI we hired when Jessie went missing, found hospital records showing that Jessie was beaten and hospitalized and he also found an escort agency where Jessie was forced to work. Others who worked there saw bruises on her, and it was not just our PI that was told, I was also told the same thing. I talked to several women who knew Jessie back in 2005 /2006 (she was kept in Las Vegas from May 2005 to March 2006), they knew her as Taylor, but many knew her. And the ones I talked, including the manager, told me Jessie often had bruises on her and that Jessie was too afraid to leave . . . too afraid of her so-called 'fiancé', Peter Todd (known to the police, including the VICE squad in Las Vegas, as a violent pimp with an conviction for spousal about), to leave.

Well, other than she looked similar to Lindsay Harris and their 'stories' are similar about their background: family life, boyfriend / fiancé / pimp, prostitution / disappearance. And they are, but all Lindsay's belongs and also Jodi and Misty's belonging were where they were left when the women left their homes that last time.WHERE ARE JESSIE'S THINGS? Remember: Jessie lived with Peter Todd . . . rather, was engaged to Peter Todd . . . and lived with him and his twin brother, James Andrew Todd (who works for the LV or NLV school district . . . yes, a known pimp's brother works with the kids in his community - and who moved out of the house he shared with Peter & Jessie on April 15, 2006 - WHY? He won't answer me when I ask. I know he is not completely happy with what his brother does, but then, he lived off him at 1009 Cornerstone Place, NLV). The amount of things happening here in Canada with human trafficking and with Jessie's case pretty much now the poster child for human trafficking in our home country. Right now I will concentrate on the most important things that have happened just in 2010 and 2011, directly regarding what I have been doing in Jessie's name and to bring forth human trafficking awareness in Canada, and what is being done here to try to put a stop to it.

I am very proud of everything I have done, and I am very proud that because the hard work by myself and so many others in the 5 years since Jessie disappeared, human trafficking is no longer in the 'closet'. It is no longer considered a 3rd world issue, or a mystery TV show. Now, TV shows are loosely basing their episodes on stories the writers heard in the news.

It's about time. MOST sex-trade workers are FORCED into this 'line of work' (take that as sarcastic). MOST prostitutes are victims of human trafficking. MOST prostitutes did NOT play HOOKER BARBIE, DRUGGIE BARBIE or want to be with PIMP KEN when they were kids and MOST of them did NOT want to grow up to be a prostitute.

If a women is being beaten and forced to go to work as a prostitute, then the PIMP is choosing for her to do it.

If a women is addicted to drugs and is forced to work as a prostitute to feed her habit, then the DRUG is choosing for her to do it.

MOST women, given a choice, would leave the OLDEST PROFESSION, or should I say OLDEST OPPRESSION IN THE WORLD.

I am the mother of missing woman, JESSIE FOSTER, international endangered missing woman and victim of human trafficking.

Jessie was lured from Canada to Las Vegas in May of 2005. And after being kept there for 10 months and after she was beaten & hospitalized and forced to work at an escort agency & arrested for solicitation of prostitution, she was planning on returning to Canada for a family wedding. But she vanished. NEVER TO BE SEEN OR HEARD FROM AGAIN.

Her cell phone has never been used since; her bank's debit card & her credit cards have never been used since; and her passport has never been used since. No one we know has seen or heard from Jessie since March 28, 2006.

Well, January is already past, and we are now into February, meaning that next month – on March 29, 2011 – it will be 5 years since Jessie disappeared. FIVE YEARS! Can anyone believe it? I know I certainly have a hard time even imagining it has been half a decade. HALF A DECADE! Wow – it is amazing that life can just fly by with something like the disappearance of a loved one looming over everything. No matter what happens, good or bad – we have to remember to tell Jessie about it. I say that, because I believe she is coming home one day. I also know that if she is not alive, she already knows.

There are many things that I am grateful for, even while living anyone's worst nightmare. I am grateful to have Jim in my life – he is my strength and he is always there for me. I am grateful my other daughters – if not for them, I don't know what I would do. I am grateful for my grandchildren. They are the light of my light, and they just mean so much to me. I am grateful to all the rest of my family – my elderly dad, my siblings, my aunts & uncles, my nephews & nieces and cousins – there are so many and they are always there for me. And for all my friends and Jessie supporters. You all keep me going. I will never give up, not with the support system I have. I love my family and friends so much.

Jessie's case has never left the news. Year-after-year there are more and more reporters and news shows who are interested in writing or airing it on through their media. Last year was a huge year, not just for Jessie's case, but also for human trafficking taking its rightful place in the top of the news, so people know this is happening in this day-and-age and it is happening here. To our daughters, our sisters, our friends. Jessie's case, already known as an international human trafficking case, she is Canada's most well-known case of human trafficking and becoming the same in the USA and around the world. HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS NOT A 3rd WORLD COUNTRY ISSUE ANY MORE – nor is it just an episode on a crime TV show.

This year is looking to be no different . . . well, actually it will be. It will be even busier, if January was any indication of what is to come.

The launch of the ALLIANCE AGAINST MODERN SLAVERY in Toronto on Friday, January 28 and Saturday, January 29, went well. I was able to speak about Jessie's disappearance and human trafficking – and all that I have been doing to educate others about this horrific crime on Friday night at the Freedom Benefit Concert and Saturday at the Inaugural Conference, along with several other people who are highly educated and extremely active in combating human trafficking.

Just a quick note about something that happened at the Kamloops airport on my way to Toronto for the AAMS launch:

I was at the Kamloops airport on Thursday to catch my flight to Calgary, then on to Toronto. I asked a young women in the line-up if this was the flight to Calgary and she said yes. I stood behind her and she turned around and looked at my Jessie button and said, “I like your button”. I said, “Thank you – that is my daughter Jessie – she is missing and the victim of human trafficking.

She asked me how I knew and I told her that “we don't have PROOF, if that is what you mean.” Then I told her a condensed version of Jessie's story. How she as lured . . . etc. I also told her that several human trafficking experts in Canada and the USA believe Jessie's case was a CLASSIC case of modern-day sex slavery.

She asked if I had another button, but I didn't – however I had posters. I told her I would get her out a poster on the plane, but she said CAN I HAVE ONE NOW? I got her out a poster and wrote the website on it, since I had forgot to add it before printing, and gave it to her.

I asked her name and she said Alicia. And she said she was RUNNING AWAY. I asked her how old she was and she said 23. She said she can't decide if she wants to get on the plane or not. I told her I was going to Toronto and I would be seeing Jessie's stepsister Alisha. Then she looked as Jessie's poster and she started to cry.

The she looked me deep in my eyes and asked me if she should go to Calgary or back to 100 Mile (House, BC – pop. 2,000 – located along Highway 16 . . . otherwise known as THE HIGHWAY OF TEARS. I said DON'T LEAVE.

She asked me how to get her luggage off the plane and I told her to go to an agent. She hugged me, crying, and I told her to go home and tell all her friends about Jessie Foster and to educate themselves (or call me) on human trafficking. With awareness none of you will ever end up in the position Jessie is in!

While I was in the line-up I heard an announcement to have someone's luggage removed from the plane. I smiled. I feel deep in my heart I truly helped her. Maybe even saved her. Remember – Calgary is where Jessie met the trafficker that lured her away. Now I know why I had to be at the Kamloops airport on Thursday afternoon, January 27, 2011. To save beautiful Alicia.

I thought it funny that I am from Kamloops, BC, the show is from Vancouver, BC and they tracked me down in Toronto, ON. We did the interview from my hotel room on Friday, January 28 at 4:00pm, before I had to leave for the concert. I ended up getting an email from a teacher in Coquitlam, BC, who heard the interview, asking me if I would please go to his school with my human trafficking education presentation.

I was also interviewed on Monday, February 1, on the NEWSLINE at NOON with JIM SMALLEY – 620 AM CKRM Radio in Saskatchewan. It was an open mike interview and there were 2 callers.

- The first was a woman who had been lured then forced into prostitution for many years and she was able to get away. She wanted to tell me that girls DO get out and to NEVER give up hope or stop searching. I TOLD HER I WOULDN'T.

- The second was a man whose daughter who was also forced into prostitution. She was taken to Florida and lost contact with her family for a long time. She was able to finally contact her parents, and they were able to get some money down to here with the message, "don't look back, just leave everything there and get to the airport, NOW". She did and she got away. She is still not able to talk about what happened, even years later. HE ALSO WANTED TO TELL ME TO NEVER GIVE UP.

Something else that started up today, Thursday, February 3 we finally got a message from Yvonne “Angel” Hubrechtsen – after nearly 5 years. She posted in the guestbook – http://users2.smartgb.com/g/g.php?a=s&i=g20-03861-b1&m=all&p=1 – of the Official Website for Missing JESSIE FOSTER – http://www.jessiefoster.ca website. She told me she was suing me for slander . . . blah, blah, blah. And then someone claiming to be her 'sister' messaged with some outrageous claims (completely slandering us) and then another 'sister' with more slander. Their claims were hurtful to one of the kindest people we have ever known . . . Jessie's stepdad. And to all of us. Including claims that Jessie was in Las Vegas, prostituting and supporting all of us back here in Canada. And including claims that Jessie took pills (which was one of the only things they said that resembled the truth . . . when Jessie was living in Calgary she was struck by a car while walking to school . . . this caused her a lot of pain, for which her doctor prescribed her pain medication).

HOWEVER, since what they said was completely untrue, and obviously without proof – it has been decided to leave the comments up – for all to see how we have been treated by those 'likely' involved in Jessie's case on one level or another. And we also want to track where these comments are being made from, via their IP addresses.

After all this time of me wanting to talk to Yvonne, I did post several comments . . . I just have so much to say to her . . . to all of them.

Another woman is now missing in Las Vegas

My daughter Jessie Foster is an international endangered missing woman whose case has been identified as a classic case of human trafficking – of modern-day sex slavery. Jessie has been missing from the Las Vegas area since March 29th, 2006 when she was just 21 years old – her 27th birthday is on May 27th, 2011.

Jessie’s case has received a fair bit of media attention, but by no means has got the attention it deserves, considering the implications that come with being the victim of human trafficking – of having been beaten and forced to work for an escort agency – of having been arrested, charged and convicted of solicitation of prostitution – and of being kidnapped and taken away somewhere.

Jessie is either still being forced into prostitution or she has been murdered, I don’t know what has happened to her. But what I do know is that Jessie NEEDS to be found either way.

There have been many women who have gone missing in Sin City. Too many, just like everywhere, but in Las Vegas there is a sigma put on some of them who are ‘known’ to have been a prostitute. No one bothers to check the facts to see if any of these women were forced into it, they just figure that they were living a ‘high-risk lifestyle’, so no wonder something bad happened to them.

Three women in particular, besides Jessie, who have gone missing since 2003 are Misty Marie Saens, Jodi Marie Brewer and Lindsay Marie Harris. All four women have arrest records for prostitution, all four women went missing from the Las Vegas area.

Misty, Jodi and Lindsay were found between several weeks and several years later – all were deceased and all were found along a deserted highway in garbage bags in Nevada (Saens), California (Brewer) and Illinois (Harris). When they were found, it was just their torsos and/or legs – no heads and no arms (meaning no dental records or fingerprints could be used to identify these women). Jessie has never been found.

Misty, Jodi and Lindsay were all last seen outside their homes, making them possible victims of a truck driver serial killer. Jessie was last seen in her home and all her belongings went missing when she disappeared, making the truck driver scenario not very likely.

MISTY MARIE SAENS – missing since March 2003 from Las Vegas, Nevada. The name of the dismembered woman found along a deserted Nevada highway in the Las Vegas Valley was unknown for two years, when she was finally identified as Misty in 2005. UNSOLVED

JODI MARIE BREWER – missing since August 14, 2003 from Las Vegas, Nevada. The name of the dismembered woman found along a highway in San Bernardino, California was unknown for three weeks, when she was identified as Jodi through her tattoos; a hummingbird above her left breast and the letter “M” on her lower back. UNSOLVED

LINDSAY MARIE HARRIS – missing since May 5, 2005 from Las Vegas, Nevada. The name of the woman whose severed legs were found off a highway in Springfield, Illinois on May 23, 2005 was unknown until May 2008 when Jane Doe was identified as Lindsay through a tattoo on her thigh. UNSOLVED

Oh, don’t get me wrong, there are many more – but for this writing, I am only mentioning these women.

Now, there is a very distinct difference in Jessie’s case (besides the obvious – she has not been found, alive or dead) and that is the details of her disappearance. First off, Misty, Jodi and Lindsay all went missing from outside their homes. All their belongings were still in their homes as they were left – as if the women would be home later. We reported Jessie missing and that she was last heard from while at her home and almost all of her belongings went missing with her.

NOTE: Jessie was planning on returning to Canada to attend a family wedding reception and her things were packed. The only things of Jessie’s that were still in the house were her hair-dryer and her make-up, two things that Jessie would never leave behind on purpose.

We know she was already packed, it was one of the things she told her sister during the last time we ever heard from her. We also know that women will pack their belongings the night before, leaving their hair products and make-up out so they can use them in the morning . . . the usual scenario would be to get up; take a shower; do their hair & make-up; pack their hair products & make-up; and then leave.

Now there has been another Las Vegas missing woman in the news in the past week or so, Debbie Flores Narvaez. Debbie is a dancer who just recently earned the spot of solo dancer the Luxor Hotel and Casino’s show, FANTASY, beating out over a hundred other women who auditioned for this exclusive spot (the Luxor is the same hotel that Lindsay was ‘apparently’ heading to when she was last heard from in May 2005). It is certainly not very likely that Debbie chose to leave – so obviously that means something has happened to her.

I am proud of the HLN shows (PrimeTime News, Nancy Grace and Jane Velez-Mitchell’s Issues) that are always airing stories about the war on women and about the missing, and Debbie’s case is no different. If not for you, there would be practically no news coverage for some of the missing and that just adds to the tragedy. I know for a fact the Nancy Grace show has helped find a missing 12-year-old girl and her abductor just recently – I can only imagine how wonderful it must have felt when you first heard this fantastic news.

One thing I have wondered about though, and I was hoping someone could clear this up for me, is why more stories about human trafficking have not been done on your station (since it is the third largest illegal money making activity in the world, next to drugs and guns – and growing), and why you have never aired a segment on Jessie’s disappearance or even put up her poster? It is not as if I have not asked.

My first email to the Nancy Grace show was back when Jessie first went missing – April 16, 2006 – the same day I emailed several shows, including the Montel Williams show. Montel had me on his show in April of 2007 and his producer and crew were at my home in British Columbia to do an update in May 2008 – but the Nancy Grace show has not even acknowledged my emails (other than the one that is automatically sent).

And twice ISSUES has had me waiting, but without even as much as a call to say never mind – they never called back. I am just glad that I do not expect anything; I just appreciate everything that anyone can to do help. So, in other words – oh well!!

We were all told that Debbie, this beautiful, talented woman, gave up her career to follow her dream and she has now been missing for over a week, with not a clue as to what happened to her. Well, I shouldn’t say there is not a clue – the police do have their ideas as to what happened, even if the family doesn’t.

We need to let people know that past the beautiful lights and fun-loving times that can be had in Las Vegas is something sinister. After all, its nickname is SIN CITY. Does that not say something right off the top? Does that not bother all the law-abiding citizens of the world who go to Sin City? Because, as everyone knows, WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS!

Christmas letter, 2010 wrap-up & 2011 beginning

Well, here it is, December 18, 2010 – one week before Christmas, before the 5th Christmas without Jessie. How in the world could so much time have gone by and me still sane? Well, as sane as possible.

So much has happened since Jessie has been missing – things with her case and things with our family. The biggest and best things to have happened were the births of my grandchildren. Jessie went missing in 2006 and in 2007 I became a grandma for the first time.

It was such a life changing moment that I had to get out of the past were I had been stuck since March 29, 2006 and get into the present where there was a little baby girl that needed things. My daughter, her mommy, needed me to give her advice and help some times and I had to be there for them. I had to be there for all 4 of my daughters and now all 3 of my grandchildren.

So, against what I would have preferred to do back then, I decided to get back into life as much as possible. I knew that it would not be the same, but I also knew that when (some say if) Jessie comes home; I needed to be sane and ready to help her with anything that she needs.

I also knew that I had to be sane for Crystal, Katie and Jennee as they were all young women with their entire lives ahead of them and they needed to succeed in whatever they did. I felt they would not be able to if they had to worry, not just about their missing sister, but about their crazy mom. THEY DO NOT DESERVE THAT.

It was then that I decided that I did not need anti-depressants (I told Dr. Patterson that I was not depressed I was sad and therefore I did not need to be on any pills). Truthfully though, I was quite not ready to face the world, so for a short time I tried drinking, but I have never really been much of a fan of alcohol, so I quit that.

Then I discovered that I felt so much better if I wrote (typed) things out that were on my mind. That is my ‘anti-depressant’ . . . that is my drug!! And to top it off, I hear from people all the time telling me that they just read something I had written and that it helped them understand things so much better; or they realized that if I could do it, then so could they – and they somehow seemed to get strength from my words. I have also been told by hundreds of people that I have opened their eyes to the crime of missing persons and human trafficking and they thank me for this.

I have had such a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that I am actually helping people. I mean, to me, I am just me – a woman, a mother and a grandmother. To others I am brave and a source of information and advice on the missing and on human trafficking. Can you imagine?

Can you imagine how good it felt when I got a call from a mother whose daughter is possibly being set up to be a victim of human trafficking – telling me that Jessie’s case has opened her eyes and now she sees what is really happening? Getting me to speak to her daughter, who I have bonded with and grown to care a great deal about, about things I know and about Jessie and how she thought she was in love with the person who we believe knows something about her disappearance.

Can you imagine how good it felt when I got a call from a mother whose daughter was ‘lured’ to the USA and was most likely being ‘groomed’ to be a prostitute? She believes her daughter may end up in a position similar to Jessie and after reading things I had written, she called me and I was able to give her some advice and introduce her to some people who have been helping her.

CAN YOU IMAGINE? It is the next best thing to getting Jessie back.

I wanted to touch on this LOVE thing I mentioned above. Jessie was in love with her “fiancé” (I will call him, “HE” or “HIM” from now on, because he was no more her true fiancé than I am) with all her heart. She was 21 and thought this was it – she thought she would get married and . . . ya, live happily ever after. He proposed to her in a very short time and she wore a big, beautiful princess-cut diamond engagement ring.

Now, in his book INVISIBLE CHAINS: Canada’s Underground World of Human Trafficking, Professor Benjamin Perrin termed this as LOVE BOMBING. This is from Chapter 5, BUYING LOCAL – CANADIAN VICTIMS, pages 61 and 62:

QUOTE. Poverty, the desire for love, and the desire for money, in that order, are the three key vulnerabilities that permit domestic sex traffickers to recruit and control victims, according to those familiar with the techniques. Applied with practised care, the routine proves enormously successful in coercing vulnerable underage girls and women into a life of sexual exploitation.

When traffickers encounter victims seeking love and attention, they commonly begin relationships by becoming “boyfriends” to their victims. This “falling in love” stage takes place over approximately two weeks. The girls are told they’re beautiful, and they’re taken to fancy restaurants and given lavish gifts. By showering a targeted girl with affection and fulfilling her material desires, the trafficker builds allegiance, eventually allowing him to manipulate her. Street gangs refer to these recruiting tactics as “love bombing”. The greater the value of the targeted female on the flesh market and the more sophisticated the trafficker, the longer he can take in “grooming” her.

This particular exploitation process requires that the girls be sexually inexperienced. For this reason, most are recruited between fourteen and sixteen, with some as young as twelve . . .

These inexperienced girls think they know more than they do . . .

He professes love while introducing other seemingly innocent acts to break down barriers, such as having a girl put on lingerie and dance for him. To create a sense of normality, the “boyfriend” will introduce sex acts that a girl may never have performed. UNQUOTE.

So, does that sound familiar to anyone???
- Jessie was originally taken to the USA on 2 “vacations”, but they were obviously not a vacation, they were part of her “grooming”.
- We know “he” was Jessie’s boyfriend for a few short weeks, perhaps a bit more than two weeks.
- Jessie was of great value to her traffickers (I was personally told by the owner of the escort agency that Jessie was beaten and forced to work at [not by the owner], that Jessie earned over $3,000 a night . . . but the next day had to borrow a dollar from someone to buy a bottle of soda-pop).
- From what we understand about “him”, “he” was very sophisticated.
- When Jessie first met the person who took her down to the USA (we will refer to him as a “recruiter”), she was still in high school and she was just 16 years old.
- Jessie did think she knew more than she did. I always say she thought she was invincible and was a city girl. When she came home to the small-city (or big-town) of Kamloops, she was becoming a “city girl”, but she was by no means, INVINCIBLE!

It sounds like Professor Perrin is specifically describing Jessie, (which already had, but in a previous chapter), but he was actually talking generally about a classic case of domestic human trafficking.

In 2007, when I was first told by the former human trafficking agency in Las Vegas called ATLAS (Anti-Trafficking League Against Slavery), that Jessie’s case was a CLASSIC CASE OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING, I was stunned. CLASSIC???

It shocked me that in North America, that in the 21st century, there was such a thing. Now it does not shock me at all. Sad, but true. I know now that human trafficking in North America is running rampant.

2010 . . . another Christmas without you here. Five Christmases of not knowing but never forgetting. I will always remember my last sight of you, it was on Christmas Day 2005 – SIX CHRISTMASES AGO. You were going into the Kamloops airport and you flew away, to the fate that awaited you, a fate that no one knew or saw coming, except maybe you, my girl.

We think of you and talk about you every day – I even talk TO you almost every day. We all miss you so much, but your sisters miss you like only a sister can. Crystal needs her little sister back, she needs you to be there in her life again. And your little sisters are both mothers now. Katie has a little boy Jacobus James, or JJ, who is almost 2 and Jennee has two little girls, Maddison Louise, or Maddie, is almost 3 and Ilianna Joy, or Ili, is almost 1. They are the most wonderful, beautiful, joyful little children you could ever know. Your little sisters need their big sister Jessie to know their babies. Their babies know you, sweetie. They love you already, and we promise you, no matter what, they will know you as we do.

We all love you baby and we all need you back. And always know this, sweet daughter of mine, I WILL FIND YOU . . . OR DIE TRYING. I love you baby-girl, love Mom. xoxoxoxox

There have been so many people who wanted to share their Christmas spirit with us. All of the messages and prayers from everyone mean so much to me. Several people and businesses have sent us things, but I have been asked by some to not personally mention them. I still have to thank you all.

A Jessie supporter put some money in our bank account so we could pick up a few groceries; when we went to the store and ran into a dear friend of ours who insisted on putting some of the grocery costs on her bank card; we got a money order from a dear friend to go get some ingredients for baking (and I have . . . jam & butter tarts; chocolate & peanut butter cookies; banana bread); we got a Wal-Mart gift card from Bob at the Comedy Factory in Edmonton (he has also done 2 fundraisers for Jessie); the family of a missing woman in the USA sent us a donation (they thought of us when they too are going through the worst possible time a family can go through – another Christmas with a missing loved one); an anonymous Jessie supporter from Facebook dropped off some things at our house to help brighten our Christmas (then called from down the street to tell me to go outside, that something was out there for us); Shaw phone, Internet and TV gave us a $1,000 credit on our bill.

When Shaw called to tell me about their generous offer, they told me it was because a LITTLE BIRDIE sent them an email and Jessie’s story touched them so much they had to do something for us.

While talking about Jessie’s case, I was asked if Shaw has ever done anything for Jessie as far as an interview or PSA (public service announcement). I said no, and he told me that they will. Yesterday I got another call from Shaw asking if they can come over on Monday to interview me about Jessie’s case and everything I have been doing since she has been missing. I mentioned that lately a lot of my work has been with Crime Stoppers and I asked if Mark Price, the head of the Kamloops & District Crimes Stoppers officer could be here for part of the interview. My name is Glendene Grant. My daughter, Jessie Foster has been a missing person now for 1 year. She was living in Las Vegas, NV (we are from Kamloops, BC and her dad is from Calgary, AB Canada, where Jessie lived with him from 16 years old for grades 11 & 12). Jessie was living in Las Vegas from May 13th, 2005 until around March 28th, 2006, which was the last time we ever heard from her. Also since that time, her cell phone, credit cards, bank account & bankcard have not been touched. Ever.

I have also been invited to the official launch of a new human trafficking organization “Canadians Against Slavery” in Toronto, Ontario on January 28th (benefit concert) and 29th (conference), 2011. At this point I still need to see about trying to get some funding for the trip, as it was arranged before I recently decided to ask to be funded by the organizations who wanted me to attend their functions and fundraiser. But this is another important function that I feel is important for me to attend, so I won’t stop until it is arranged. Thankfully, what I cannot fund, C.A.S. will cover.

Two more things I want to mention, neither are scheduled yet, but hopefully will be soon.

Having been to 3 different functions with Professor Perrin since October (Vancouver, Edmonton and again in Vancouver), I feel that we have bonded somewhat (prior to that, we had just emailed back-and-forth since 2007), so I got brave and asked him if there would be any chance of him ever coming and doing his talk to the residents of Kamloops and he said yes. I have not brought it up again yet, because things have been so busy for him, but I did talk to Crime Stoppers and they agree it would be a great idea to get him here! So, hopefully sometime in the new year Professor Perrin will grace us with his presence and help educate our citizens about the horrific crime of human trafficking!

Now, the following is kind of a long story, but only because it is 3 stories that connect to make my point.

PART 1 OF THE STORY: Back on March 29, 2007, on the one year of Jessie's disappearance, I got an email from a woman I had been communicating with at the missing person organization in the USA called the Carol Sund Foundation, telling me about a mother-daughter band in Edmonton, AB that she knew, she said years earlier, she had been in a band and toured with them. She emailed them and introduced me to Joanne and Haley Myrol their band is called Myrol. For almost 4 years I have been online friends with them, and even though we have not met yet, I feel very close to them and they do to me and to Jessie. I am not sure if I am supposed to tell anyone about this yet, so I guess this is 'off the record' for now, but Haley Myrol is in the middle of writing a song for Jessie. It is amazing, but she really is.

PART 2 OF THE STORY: In November I was in Vancouver for the Salvation Army's Hope in the City Luncheon fundraiser. I was their Hope Giver this year. The emcee was Pamela Martin, news anchor for Vancouver's CTV News at Six with Bill Good, and the guest speaker was UBC Assistant Professor of Law, Benjamin Perrin, the author of INVISIBLE CHAINS: Canada's Underground World of Human Trafficking. Jessie's case is written about in this book and Professor Perrin discusses her case across Canada, even during a meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper on October 27, 2010. On my flight back to Kamloops I was seated next to a cowboy. He had the boots, the belt and the hat and a very charming personality and he introduced himself as Allen Christie. He let me use his cell-phone to call my hubby to meet me, since my original flight had been cancelled due to the poor weather and I was lucky to get one of the last seats on one of the last flights that night. We talked and eventually he told me he was musician – country of course – and he was here to play at the Cowboy Christmas Concert at the Calvary Temple on Saturday. I asked him if he had a business card, and he did. He also told me he was on Facebook. I went to his main account and his Allen Christie fan page. It was on the fan page I saw you were the only fan in common that I had with him. On his friend page, I saw that I had 2 friends on common – Joanne & Haley Myrol. I thought – wow, what a small world. And after I commented on a picture that I knew Joanne & Haley and that I had met Allen, there was a comment from Marty Lee saying that his daughter Mackenzie and my daughter Jennee were friends – and the weekend before that, his daughter Mackenzie and his grandson Iszaac were at my daughter Jennee's 2 daughter's birthday party – one turned 3 and one turned 1. SMALL WORLD? YES!

PART 3 OF THE STORY: Joanne Myrol sent me this message after she saw my post about meeting Allen: That is so cool. (MEANING HOW I MET ALLEN ON THE FLIGHT FROM VANCOUVER TO KAMLOOPS) That boy really moves around. I think we're due for a show in Kamloops with Allen, don't you think so? Maybe something for Jessie. If you want to organize something, I'm sure we could put the Cowgrass and Roots Show together for that. We could raise some money.

Now . . . I have no idea how to organize a country music event. But I was hoping someone can help me. Maybe suggest a type of setting; a venue; and anything else I will need to do to host an event like this!

As you can see, there are still a lot of people who want to help us do whatever they can to find Jessie.

So, to my family, friends and Jessie supporters, I want to thank you all, again, for your continued love, support and prayers for Jessie and all of us. And without offending anyone (you all know I celebrate Christmas and that was the last day I ever say Jessie in person) I want to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

On Thursday, November 25, 2010, I attended the HOPE IN THE CITY fundraiser luncheon in Burnaby (Vancouver), BC. I was invited after one of the organizers of the event saw me at Professor Benjamin Perrin’s book launch for INVISIBLE CHAINS: Canada’s Underground World of Human Trafficking. She sent the following message:

Hi Glendene, my name is Jamie R. and I attended the reception and launch for Ben Perrin's book last Monday at the Chan Center, where Ben referred to your story a few times.

Every year The Salvation Army hosts an event called the Hope in the City Luncheon, which raises funds for our anti-human trafficking program and builds awareness. The funds support Deborah's Gate, which is our safe house for victims who are escaping trafficking Ben is speaking at the event for the second year, and we are really excited to build on the success of last years event.

One of the elements of the lunch that we are currently working on is a video. We have a project called Hope Giver that shares the story of people who were once hopeless who are now giving hope to other people. At the event your courageous spirit was so evident, as was your commitment to pursue your daughter and raise awareness around the devastating issue of trafficking. This spirit is obviously something that build hope in everyone who comes in contact with you.

I was wondering if we could talk about sharing your story in the video? We respect that this is a sensitive subject, so we could obviously discuss how the story would be presented to make sure you are comfortable. Thanks for your consideration!

Of course I said yes and so they sent Allison S. and David to my home in Kamloops to do the video, and then they made the arrangements for me to get to Burnaby (Vancouver) and back. I left Wednesday, November 24th, but the weather was not great. The plane left an hour late (booked for 7:20PM, left at 8:30PM), so of course, it got me in late. Then when I got to Vancouver, my suitcase did not end up on the luggage carrousel. SO, I had to fill out a DELAYED BAGGAGE claim and wait for them to look for it. I suggested they check the cart on the tarmac, in case it ended up with the non-checked baggage. They never did, and eventually they found it, ON THE CART WITH THE NON-CHECKED BAGGAGE!!! LOL – but hey, no matter how irritating it was to wait for the flights and to wait for my suitcase – it was really nothing in the realm of things. In my life it was nothing.

OH, I have to mention this. When I was going down to Las Vegas, NV for the first time when Jessie first went missing, my best friend, Brenda Rose and I were booked to fly from Vancouver, BC to Calgary, AB so we could go through Jessie's storage unit before we went to Las Vegas, NV. Well two funny things happened.

The second one first: we drove from Jessie's dads place in the Northeast end of Calgary all the way to the Southwest end of the city – about 40 or 50 minutes of driving, only to find out when we got there that we had the wrong key for the storage unit, so we ended up going through it on our way home from Las Vegas – which was not too bad, because though we found a lot of stuff in there, there was not really anything that would have changed the course of our trip to Las Vegas.

The first funny thing: (though certainly not funny when it happened) was on the drive to Vancouver in Brenda's truck to get to an international airport. She did not have a tailgate on her truck, and I questioned the safety of our luggage in the back, considering we would be driving through the mountains of British Columbia for around 4 hours from Kamloops to Vancouver. She told me it was okay, not to worry, and I said okay, worried to death!! So, we get all the way to Vancouver and were heading to my brother's place where we would be parking the truck while we were gone. I looked in the back of the truck and my heart stopped. Where there were once 4 suitcases – my 2 red ones and Brenda's 2 blue ones, and there were just 3. Two blue and ONE red. One of my suitcases was gone. I instantly felt my heart start to beat; Brenda was trying to keep me from panicking, though I think internally she was going 'SHIT'!! 'OH NO'!!! We back-tracked our travels for a bit, but there were no signs of the bag – or the items scattered across the road. So we stopped and called my brother, explained where we were and he said he would come meet up with us. Then we phoned my house in case someone found it and called my number from the tag on it. YA, like that is about to happen. I got a hold of my hubby, and he told me that a man just called and said he found my suitcase and he left his phone number and address. YAHOO! I was amazed and thrilled. I thanked God for this, since it was my big suitcase and it had my binder of Jessie articles, which is like a bible to me during this. So, my brother got to where we were, and we followed him to get my bag! We got the bag and got to my brother's place to park the truck and he got us to the airport just in time to make our flight.

SO, MISSING LUGGAGE IS NOT SOMETHING I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH.

ANYWAYS. I got to the hotel at about 11:00PM or so. Allison had picked me up and drove me there. I ended up not able to sleep until at least 2:00AM, and then I woke up at about 5:30AM – from the wind howling outside. Vancouver was getting one of the very few snow storms (they are on the pacific coast – the Pacific Ocean), they get a lot of rain there. And there was a lot of snow happening. I ended up watching some TV and getting on the Internet, checking my mail and posting on Facebook. Even had a quick exchange with my daughter, Jennee, who thought I had not told her I was going to Vancouver (but I had).

Then Allison called and said because of the amount of snow they were coming to pick me up an hour earlier than we discussed the night before, so I finished getting ready. I was packed and waiting for them and anxious to get the day under way. I was looking forward to this event – meeting the people and seeing the video that David had worked so hard on.

It was about an hour or a bit longer of a drive to get there – it was at a golf course in Burnaby, but I can’t recall the name, and that is too bad, because it was a very nice place. But we got there a bit early and they finished setting up (they had started the night before). People started mingling and soon all the guests were there – 250 people. There was a silent auction in the back room and people were bidding on items before lunch was served.

Lunch was awesome. The first course was a spinach salad with a stack of tomatoes and cheese and some saucy-stuff on top. Sorry, but I don’t know the name of the dish, but it was very good. The main course was a scoop of mashed potatoes with some stuffing in the middle, and on top of that there was some turkey with gravy. There were roasted yams, green beans, carrots and cranberries. Desert was a miniature apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top and a dollop of whipping cream with a strawberry stuck in it. IT WAS ALL DELICIOUS.

After we ate they played the video about Jessie’s case, I was introduced to everyone. I was actually amazed – I got a standing ovation. There was hardly a dry eye in the place, including mine. I was asked several questions about Jessie and her case . . . and then I got to sit down again. OH, I never mentioned this – I was at the head table, with guest speaker Professor Perrin, emcee Pamela Martin, (co-anchor with Bill Good on Vancouver’s CTV News at Six) and several others. It was such an honour.

So, after that we got the honour of listening to Professor Perrin speak. I am always in awe at the amount of knowledge this man has. I have learned so much from him and I have even been finding myself starting to use some of his wording. For example, in his book he writes about LOVE BOMBING, meaning showering the victim with love (instead of drugs), exactly what happened to Jessie. I now know the correct term to use, just like when I used to say “Jessie was taken away against her will and is being forced to work in the sex-trade” – now I say “Jessie is the victim of human trafficking”. I have always known what I mean; I just have not always had the correct terminology for it.

After our wonderful guest speaker was done they held their live auction. There were some amazing pieces of artwork; a Vancouver Canucks hockey stick signed by the entire team; many different crowns that were made by some of the women & their daughters and where being used for the table centerpieces; and several other very nice items. And after both auctions it was time to leave. I was given a thank you gift, which was a beautiful leather bound Salvation Army binder, and a HUGE basket of goodies. I was able to get most of it in my suitcase except for 3 things.

I wanted to mention something Professor Perrin and I talked about at the table. About how I had written an article called “Prostitution – The World’s Oldest Profession and the only profession to allow its workers to be KIDNAPPED &/or KILLED” and after it was published in the Sept/Oct 2010 CrimeWatch Canada Magazine, I changed my opinion about something I had put in it. He said that is okay, that he too had a change of heart about things over the years, including having The Swedish Model change his ways of thinking some too, though he did not elaborate how. What he encouraged me to do, was to write about how this changed my mind. He told me it would be something important to tell people.

The thing that I changed my mind about is that I once thought that legalizing prostitution was most likely the only solution to a horrific problem. Now I don’t think that at all. Not since I read The Swedish Model. That told me there IS another solution and it IS working perfectly fine, thank you very much! Actually the name has expanded to The Nordic Model, because when Sweden made the act of selling sex (demand) legal BUT the act of buying sex (supply) illegal and driving a lot of the pimps and human traffickers out of Sweden and into the neighbouring countries – the neighbouring countries established the same laws. Now modern-day sex slavery has all but diminished over there. Why can’t we do it here? Great question and one Professor Perrin has been trying to get answered.

At the event I asked Professor Benjamin Perrin if he would think about coming to Kamloops to do a talk and he said of course. Now, that would be awesome and I could be involved in organizing it! I will see what we can figure out and let everyone know.

When it was time to leave, the plane was an hour late and, you got it – my suitcase did not make it. I had to file a DELAYED BAGGAGE claim and it was delivered to my home the next morning.

We (Canadians Against Slavery) have an office space in 331 York Lanes at York University. Our mission is to research, educate and aid in partnership in order to end slavery in local and global communities.

To mark our official launch out of the Harriet Tubman Institute in Toronto, we are holding a benefit concert on January 28 and a one day conference on January 29. One of our co-founders is a musician, who recently performed in front of 10,000 people at a World Bank event in Washington, D.C. He and I are working on what we hope will be a very inspiring, uplifting concert. The conference on January 29 will feature Canadian NGOs freeing slaves; Canadian front line activists and survivors; law enforcement officials; government officials, journalists, educators and researchers. We are excited to have the International Justice Mission, Chab Dai Canada, Timea Nagy, Marty Van Doren of the RCMP, government officials and other organizations, survivors, officials and advocates set to present. I suspect you already know many of them, but perhaps will not know some of those doing work on forced labour and/or trafficking for forced marriage.

We believe that not enough attention has been drawn to Jessie's case. Would you be interested in presenting, participating or presenting at our launch?

I wrote this article earlier this month: Hooker Barbie, Druggie Barbie – Pimp Ken, and then last week I got a call from another Canadian mother – she had been searching for some place to turn to for help and she found this and she found me.

The first was a mother who was referred to me by ACT (Action Coalition of human Trafficking – Alberta) when they did not know how to help her. Her daughter was being groomed and was about to become a human trafficking victim. We were able to save her. We talked and talked – I talked to the mom, the dad and the daughter and now she is safe and sound and away from everything. WHAT A WONDERFUL FEELING IT IS, TO KNOW I HAVE HELPED SAVE SOMEONE.

The call I got last week was from another woman who told me about her daughter, who she suspected was being groomed by a human trafficker. She had left her home and gone to Las Vegas, and was losing contact with her family and friends. Her story is so much like Jessie’s but there was one huge difference, she was not missing and we were not about to allow it to happen. I have been in touch with this mother and I have got her in touch with people in Canada and in Las Vegas, NV USA who are able to help save this young woman. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I HAVE ACTUALLY HELPED SAVE 2 YOUNG WOMEN FROM A VERY QUESTIONABLE FATE. Knowing this truly helps me get through this horrible time in my life.

Another person that I believe I have helped is a young woman who was rescued from a human trafficking ring several years ago, but she was having trouble coping and we spent some time conversing back and forth – I referred her to someone that is even more experienced at counselling than I and I think that this has helped. We have not talked for a while, but I know she would contact me if she needed me. THIS IS MY CALLING. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE ABILITY TO TALK TO PEOPLE, TO RELATE TO THEM AND FOR THEM TO UNDERSTAND I AM HERE FOR THEM.

I have also been approached by people in the USA who need help, but I have not got the knowledge of the different states, so I have been referring them to a dear friend of mine and probably America’s leading human trafficking expert.

I do not judge people, because trust me; I don’t want to be judged by them. It is not up to me to decide what a person should be doing – but I do give people my honest opinion and great wealth of human trafficking knowledge and I help them to make some good choices – to make some educated decisions. EDUCATION IS POWER!

And so you all know, I have been directed on how to make a request form for me to send out when I get an invitation to go to a function like these fundraisers I have been going to.

It was explained to me (and I knew, but did not know what to do about it) that I cannot keep giving my time away, as I also have bills to pay and I still have to eat and pay rent, and she considers me a teacher and that all teachers get paid and for me to not feel bad about asking for a fee to attend, after all, these fundraiser are raising a lot of money for the organizations and there is not one other person that is there to speak that is not being paid a fee. So, I am proud to announce that I am hopefully on my way to earning an income as I continue to do the good work I do for this cause. As I continue to educate the citizens of my country and our world about human trafficking. I will no longer feel as if I am only doing this for Jessie and my family. I am doing this for everyone – for everyone's child, everyone's sibling, everyone's parent. I am doing this for everyone, including myself. Most of you know that I am the mother of a missing woman.

Most of you know that my daughter Jessie Foster is an international endangered missing woman and that she is the victim of human trafficking.

But what you may not know is this . . .

Emotionally: we are completely spent – overdrawn, as you can imagine.

Spiritually: we are fortunate to have many people who are there for us, helping us stay strong.

Financially: we are drained . . . barely hanging on by the skin of our teeth and in some instances, we have lost our hold.

I would appreciate it so much, if somehow, the Canadian government could help us out with the costs involved with having a missing loved one for nearly 5 years - FOR NEARLY HALF A DECADE!! The income stops, (temporarily for some and permanently for others . . . who can work when this happens?) but the bills don't. The everyday bills keep piling up.

And then there are all the new bills – for private investigators; trips to meet with investigators or to identify bodies; money for paper and ink to make posters; hundred if not thousands of long-distance phone calls; you name it, we have to pay for it. It is very overwhelming. But who do I have to turn to? No one. Sadly, there is no one to help me. Thankfully we have done a lot of fundraising, but it is a lot to keep asking of my small community. We have done most of the fundraising here in Kamloops, BC, with a few in Calgary, AB and Edmonton, AB – there was even a yard sale in Surrey, BC back in the summer of 2006. It has certainly helped, but it is just not enough.

I have spent all my money and much of my time trying to find my own daughter and to prevent this from happening to others. I volunteer my time to go into high-schools with Crime Stoppers to educate the students about human trafficking. I do all I can to combat this horrific crime, and then I go home to no groceries in my home; rent not paid; BC Hydro, Teresan Gas, Shaw Cable & Internet and Telus threatening to shut off my services (Telus did disconnect my long distance due to their own error – and without crediting me for this horrible inconvenience, so I finally got rid of them and I have got Shaw phone now). I have no credit cards, because I had no money to pay them and so now I also have to deal with my credit being in the toilet.

The list goes on and on, and until now, I have not sat around whining and complaining much about it, but I do feel that I have the right to sometimes, so I am letting it out now. I am tired of not being able to cook a decent meal or make some cookies because my grandchildren are coming over, or for the life of me - TO BUY MY BEAUTIFUL GRANDCHILDREN A BIRTHDAY PRESENT. I can't even do that at this time of my life. After years . . . after decades of working and providing for my family, I now cannot even provide for myself.

PLEASE, help me get some justice for Jessie and some help for me. I really can't keep on going like this, but I know I will. No matter what, I WILL FIND JESSIE, OR DIE TRYING.

Again, thank you all for your time and prayers, and remember, with Christmas coming, we have another hurdle to get over. Christmas 2005 was the last day that I ever laid my eyes on my daughter. Christmas is hard enough when you have a missing child, but with that day marking the ‘anniversary’ (for lack of a better word), sadly, it can be one of the worst days of the year. And without money to pay bills, there is certainly no money to celebrate the holiday.

2010 . . . another Christmas without you here. Five Christmases of not knowing but never forgetting. I will always remember my last sight of you, it was on Christmas Day 2005 – SIX CHRISTMASES AGO. You were going into the Kamloops airport and you flew away, to the fate that awaited you, a fate that no one knew or saw coming, except maybe you, my girl.

We think of you and talk about you every day – I even talk TO you almost every day. We all miss you so much, but your sisters miss you like only a sister can. Crystal needs her little sister back, she needs you to be there in her life again. And your little sisters are both mothers now. Katie has a little boy Jacobus James, or JJ, who is almost 2 and Jennee has two little girls, Maddison Louise, or Maddie, is almost 3 and Ilianna Joy, or Ili, is almost 1. They are the most wonderful, beautiful, joyful little children you could ever know. Your little sisters need their big sister Jessie to know their babies. Their babies know you, sweetie. They love you already, and we promise you, no matter what, they will know you as we do.

WWH – Over the past few months WWH correspondent Diana May-Waldman, with Michelle Close-Mills and Deena Reemiel has been investigating the human trafficking industry. This is the third article in our series that exposes the global market for human beings.

“I will find Jessie or die trying.”

Glendene Grant, a divorced mother of four from Kamloops, British Columbia is a force to be reckoned with.

She has to be. She is living through every mother’s worst nightmare.

Glendene’s second oldest child Jessica Edith Louise Foster has been missing since April of 2006. It’s been more than four and a half years of living hell for her family.

Jessie is a suspected victim of human trafficking.

Trafficking is modern day slavery and a growing business. An estimated $40 billion dollar a year, global business. Most victims end up sold as sex slaves, selling their bodies in exchange for their lives. Many are beaten, starved, threatened, or hooked on drugs, forcing them into submission. Trafficking is not gender or age exclusive. Some victims are sold for labor, but the majority is put to work in the sex trade. The sex trade makes more money.

Jessie’s descent into a nefarious underworld innocently began when she met a man named Donald Vaz while living with her father in Calgary. Donald approached her at a club where her boyfriend Jon was a disc jockey. A tall, well-built, attractive African American, 23 year old Donald was easy on the eyes and charming. They became friends.
Jessie and Donald didn’t see each other again for another two years until Donald called her cell phone and invited her to go to Florida.

A short time later they flew to Fort Lauderdale and Key West. Three weeks after their return from Florida, they were back on a plane, traveling to Manhattan and Atlantic City.

On their return, Jessie called home while en route.

Plans had changed. They were going to Las Vegas first. Jessie’s 21st birthday was exactly 14 days from the day she landed on May 13th. Afterward she would return to Canada.

“Nothing felt right about it. The free trips to the USA, then taking her to Vegas, her staying there. I got a lot of red flags which were the types of intuition I talk about now, and I tell people to NOT ignore them. I did tell Jessie I wanted her back in Canada over and over and over.” Glendene reported.

Two weeks stretched out into ten months. Donald left Jessie with “friends” just before a Jamaican national twice her age named Peter Bertrand Todd entered the picture.
Jessie told her parents that Peter was rich, a reputed trust fund baby whose parents owned a string of McDonald’s in New Jersey. She said he received a $5,000 check each month from his trust, and lived in a posh half million dollar North Las Vegas home. Peter assured her that he had enough money so she didn’t have to work.

It wasn’t long before Jessie informed her family that she and Peter were engaged.
However all was not as it appeared.

Jessie’s fiancé was a pimp.

He forced her into prostitution, as a top-level call girl through an escort agency. Her average daily haul for the agency was $3,000.00.

On two different occasions, she was arrested for solicitation of prostitution, was regularly beaten and was hospitalized for her injuries.

Those who knew Jessie in Las Vegas reported that she was terrified of what might happen if she tried to leave him.

And her family hadn’t a clue what was going on. They thought she was involved with a wealthy older man.

Jessie called, emailed and sent text messages; several times a day to her mother, her sisters and several girlfriends she’d known all her life. Their conversations were peppered with clubs she’d been to, who she had seen there, appointments and shopping – normal every day banter.

The only negative calls placed to Glendene were when Jessie and Peter were fighting.

“I would talk to Peter and try to convince him to let Jessie go, saying stuff to him like Jessie is too young for you. She is immature and you have been married before, so she is jealous. He didn’t listen to a word I ever said. At the end of the call Jessie would tell me that it was okay. I now know I should have raced down there and brought her home.”

The last time the family saw Jessie was over Christmas of 2005. She seemed happy and looked good. Her parents tried to convince her to reconsider returning to Las Vegas, but she insisted on leaving.

Jessie phoned her sister Crystal on March 28, 2006. The phone call ended with “talk to you tomorrow.”

After that, silence.

Glendene was frantic.

“I started leaving message after message and I filled up her voice-mail box. I emailed her and my emails were getting more and more frantic and pretty soon I was yelling in them. I went to work the next day and told one of my co-workers, ‘I think my daughter is missing in Las Vegas.’ He said, ‘What are you doing here then?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know.’ I left and didn’t go back for a year and a half.”

Peter Todd acknowledged seeing Jessie on April 3rd, 2006, however each time Glendene grilled him she received a different story. He also claimed he wasn’t allowed to report her as a missing person, even though he was her fiancé. Glendene asked for the police department phone number he’d called so she could file the report herself.

The number he gave her was for the Fire Chief.

Heartsick, Glendene filed the missing persons report on April 9th, 2006 in Canada as well as with the North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) who assigned the case to Detective David Molnar.

Since the beginning, Glendene said she believes that the police have done very little investigating.

“I personally have given so much information to the police working on Jessie’s case. But it is only given to them by me – the mother – because the people who have called me with this information had no other choice but to call the mom. I am told over and over, that they are calling me personally, because the police haven’t got back to them. But even when I call or email this information to the police myself, they still do NOTHING with any of it.”
Despite the plethora of leads Glendene has forwarded to NLVPD for follow up, there are other disturbing aspects about the lack of attention given to Jessie’s case.

“Why has the house never been gone over for blood and DNA, such as checking under carpets and behind baseboards or whatever it is they do during an investigation such as this?”
And Glendene doesn’t mince words when it comes to her feelings about Detective David Molnar and his handling of the investigation.

“He has not contacted me in any way for almost two years – nearly half the entire time Jessie has been missing, except for one 15-word message in 2009, when I literally had to demand to know who the detective on Jessie’s case is now. It was obviously not him, or he would be doing something, anything (like returning messages to people calling with tips, who end up calling me, the mother, because they get no response from the police. He replied ‘Glendene, I am still the Detective on the case. Who told you I was not?’ It was not that anyone told me. It was that he had no contact whatsoever with anyone in Jessie’s family. I am the family contact person. He never replied to any of my pleas for him to return my phone calls or reply to my emails. So to me, Detective David Molnar is simply the detective on record who is ‘handling’ Jessie’s case.”

After a story about Jessie’s disappearance appeared on April 21, 2006 in the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, Geraldo Rivera’s “Geraldo at Large” contacted the family to do a segment, giving the case a much larger audience. Maury Povich posted Jessie’s missing info on October 11th of that same year. And Montel Williams asked Glendene on his show in May 24th, 2007.

Hoping to jolt the NLVPD into action, Glendene made plans to return to Las Vegas two weeks prior to the Montel Williams show’s air date to promote the episode. However when she arrived at the Vancouver airport, she was shocked to learn that United States Immigration denied her entry into the U.S.

Their reason?

Glendene had been charged with possession of a controlled substance 20 years earlier in 1987 when a friend who was in trouble with the law left a duffel bag at her home with a minute amount of pot and cocaine inside. However she was later cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. As far as Canada was concerned, she was as clean as a whistle.
United States Immigration didn’t agree.

Hoping it would be easier to enter the U.S. by car she tried to cross again and was turned away once more.

Pleading, arguing, showing immigration officials the binder of Jessie’s articles and the urgency of going to Las Vegas to search for her missing daughter; it all fell on deaf ears. There was an appeal process, but if denied she would have to wait an additional five years to petition again.

It is interesting to note that Glendene had made a number of prior trips to the United States since Jessie’s disappearance without incident.

Until this.

One would think there was a conspiracy afoot to keep Glendene Grant in Canada and far away from Las Vegas.

The question is who, and why? And that’s not all.

Glendene opened a Facebook page. It was disabled. Then another was also disabled.
There were a total of fourteen Facebook pages disabled.

Facebook’s explanation?

“I have never so much got even an auto reply from Facebook about any of this. I emailed and sent comments via Facebook and others messaged them and no one heard a thing back. So, no – never a reason for this at all.”

It may be that whoever doesn’t want Glendene traveling to America doesn’t want her attracting thousands of contacts on the internet either.
But they didn’t realize who they were dealing with.

Jessie’s mom is one tough cookie.

Glendene not only persevered in getting Facebook pages for Jessie, but she also took the internet by storm.

In addition to Jessie’s official website www.JessieFoster.ca, Glendene runs three different blogs, posts videos, and posts on other people’s forums and blogs. She has appeared on Canadian television, given interviews for newspapers and radio programs, speaks for groups and at awards presentations. Additionally Jessie’s story has appeared in the National Enquirer in 2007 and twice on the television show America’s Most Wanted in 2008 and 2009. And five separate books have been written that have included Jessie’s story; four currently in print, one to be released in January 2011.

Glendene is tireless in her efforts to spread the word about Jessie, and to educate people about human trafficking.

“I have reached tens of thousands of people about Jessie’s case. She is the most well-known unknown missing person in the world, and she is Canada’s poster-child for human trafficking.”

The word is definitely out.

Then there is her involvement in promoting a human trafficking bill CR263 introduced by Canadian Parliament MP Joy Smith. It received Royal Assent on June 29, 2010, amending Section 279.01 of Canada’s Criminal Code to include a five year minimum sentence for the trafficking of a minor and a six year minimum sentence for more serious cases.

“I met Joy Smith in April 2010. She came up to me and told me she was very proud of all I have done in my ‘crusade’ to find Jessie and raise awareness of human trafficking. She told me about her bill CR263 going to the Senate at the end of May beginning of June (it was to fall on Jessie’s birthday May 27) and she wanted to know if I would come to Ottawa to speak at the Senate Meeting. I told her I would be honored to. I told all my networking and media ‘friends’ I have (thousands) and we got a lot of media.”

In spite of her growing impact in a world combating human trafficking, Glendene remains humble.

“I may have had an influence on some people to sign petitions and give their support for the bill in every possible way, but when people have said to me ‘you are responsible for this bill to pass into law,’ I cannot take any credit because Joy and many others did so much more than me.”

Although she has taken a horrible situation and turned it around to help others, it has come with a price.

“Financially, we’re hanging on by the skin of our teeth. I was working at Convergys for over six years, when a year ago I was let go as they were shutting down the Kamloops office. What used to be a full-time job for my husband Jim is now two maybe four hours a day” Jessie’s tireless mother reports.

“Emotionally, I am a roller coaster, but I am the mom and I comfort others, even strangers who tear up when they hear about Jessie. I decided long time ago to take ‘this’ on mostly by myself and save my kids from too much turmoil. They still need to live their lives – they are in their early to late 20’s and the younger ones have become mothers since Jessie went missing. I am stronger than them – besides, Jessie is MY daughter. Jessie’s dad is doing the poorest of everyone. It has really taken a toll on him, emotionally, physically and every way possible.”
Glendene believes that she will see Jessie alive again but she is open to the possibility that she won’t.

“My heart just isn’t telling me she’s dead. I only have one wish – I wish I could find Jessie soon – alive or not, she needs to come home.”

And unless someone cuts Glendene Grant a break and allows her into the United States to search for her daughter, she may never know what happened.

Especially since private investigators aren’t cheap.

For a loving, devoted mother who spent nearly five years of her life raising global awareness of the human trafficking epidemic, and saving thousands of lives in the process we should find the brick wall that Glendene is up against totally unacceptable.

4) I called John G. Diefenbaker school in Calgary, AB today and asked to speak to the principal, Robert Tink. I was informed that he was in a meeting and would I like to leave a message. I said certainly and I told her who I am and who Jessie is, that she graduated from this school in 2002 and that she has been missing since 2006. She asked me to hold a moment and I thought she got another call. A minute later a man goes, HELLO, MAY I HELP YOU? I asked if this was Mr. Tink and he said yes – WOW, HE SURE CAME OUT OF HIS MEETING FAST!

I asked Mr. Tink if he was the principal back in 2002, and he said yes, he started towards the end of that year. I asked if he had ever heard of Jessie Foster and he said yes, he had heard of her in the news. Then I told him that I have been doing presentations in Kamloops at high schools with Crime Stoppers, to help educate the teenaged students on the horrific crime of human trafficking, the crime that has touched my family’s lives and I thought that JGD would be a perfect school to do a presentation at, since Jessie graduated from there, and while she was going there, she met (not at school) the person who took (lured) Jessie to Las Vegas. He was surprized to hear that.

He told me that their schedule was already full with other things, BUT he believed this was a good idea and he wanted me to email him some information about it . . . so I did.

I will let you know what happens!!

IT CAN BE A HARMLESS CHAT.

It can be a friend on Facebook.

It can be a meeting at the mall.

It can be someone she just met or a family friend.

Any of these situations is a possible way a youth can be recruited into prostitution.

The average age of entry in the sex trade in British Columbia (Canada) is 14, but it can happen at any age.

It happened to DIANE SOWDEN, founder of Children of the Street Society.

“My daughter was a straight-A student and bored,” said Sowden.

Her daughter was only 13 when she was recruited into the sex trade.

By the time she was 14, she was pregnant.

Last month, Sowden gave a presentation about sexual exploitation of youth, with the collaboration of the ASK Wellness Centre.

She talked about how she began her crusade to educate parents and children of the real danger of recruitment into the sex trade.

Out of her own experience and the lack of support, she created the Children of the Street Society to educate the public on prevention of sexual exploitation.

As she talked about her daughter, she put a picture of her from Grade 8, the last year she completed school.

There is nothing that sets her apart from any other girl.

She came from a good family, attended a good school and was a bright girl with a bright future.

She was recruited after she began to party with an older crowd she thought matched her maturity.

At those parties, she was exposed to alcohol and drugs.

“She became addicted to crack cocaine,” said Sowden.

“All the drugs that she thought were free were not. She accumulated a $4,000 debt.”

This is the common progression into entry into the sex trade.

Sowden’s daughter experienced the three stages of recruitment – lure, trust and payback.

At 28, her daughter is addicted to heroin and recently gave birth to her fifth child.

Four of the five children were born drug-affected.

Sowden’s goal for the society is stated in its mission:

“We take a proactive approach through public awareness and education to prevent sexual exploitation of children and youth, while also offering support to families, since 1995.”

During her presentation, Sowden said people “can’t put a blind eye to the issue.

I was made to feel ashamed and that my daughter shouldn’t be in the community because she would contaminate it.”

Through the Social and Health Options for Persons in the Sex Trade program (SHOP) with the Ask Wellness Centre, Sowden’s message has the opportunity to educate many schools across Kamloops.

SHOP will launch presentations and workshops throughout schools during the first week of April.

It is made possible through community support, such as the downtown Coast Canadian Inn, which has contributed toward lodging.

Funding contributions for the confirmed presentations in more than nine local schools are still needed.

I am so grateful to all the birthday messages for Jessie last week, and some are even still coming in. Thank you all and God bless you for your continued support.
